Is this too "out there"? Have liked it since I heard of that actress James King.

AlexanderSkarsgardOhYes · 28/08/2012 22:44

scottishmummy, that is, of course, not you Mrs.

AlexanderSkarsgardOhYes · 28/08/2012 22:43

I've got a terrible feeling I know you in RL.

MrsHelsBels74 · 28/08/2012 22:42

Erm, I think we're wandering a little far from the point here. Take it outside you two!

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 22:41

me neither
glad we concur

AlexanderSkarsgardOhYes · 28/08/2012 22:41

Hey, I'm not the one that spends all day on Mumsnet criticising virtually every post I read.

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 22:37

yes given your insights into names, feminism you feel you can spuriously opine about mood too
I guess all that wisdom, you just got to share

BikeRunSki · 28/08/2012 22:37

It's a perfectly nice, Classic name, but has become established as a boys name. Life is surely complicated and judgey enough without giving a child a name that is widely recognised as belonging to the opposite sex and giving them just another bit of complication to deal with.

AlexanderSkarsgardOhYes · 28/08/2012 22:31

You are coming across as angry and aggressive scottishmummy. But then you just about always do, no matter what the thread is about...

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 21:25

you're overstating your case,no one angry
bemused,yes
angry no

GlitterPinkRubberDucky · 28/08/2012 21:22

Oh my god, why are some people angry, literally angry at the suggestion that I find it a beautiful name for a girl?

I have already said yes I agree it's probably too unusual for a girls name but I'm not going to apologise at the fact that I FIND IT A BEAUTIFUL NAME FOR A GIRL?

I have already said I wouldn't name my daughter this, I was just asking people's thoughts on the name for a girl. Totally understand and apprecte people disliking it, but why is there so much anger? No one is asking you to name your girl this.

Geez, the world would be a boring place if we all thought the same.

I know a girl called Dylan. At first I, like most people thorght why give her a Boys name, that's cruel. But once you got to know her and her little personality, you got used to the name and it suited her.

Of course, there is the real possibility that calling a girl James, she will encounter the problems listed above, whether she would love it or hate it would be down to the child's personality and the support of her family and friends around her.

Viviennemary · 28/08/2012 20:40

There's always Jamesina I suppose. Not keen though and not sure how you pronounce it.

Blatherskite · 28/08/2012 20:25

How about Alberta - Bertie?

Louisa - Louis?

MigratingCoconuts · 28/08/2012 20:23

Exactly so SM!!

StiffyByng · 28/08/2012 20:06

I also actually think the sound of it for a girl is lovely. I might even say beautiful. But I would chicken out, because it would be wearing all round. I think a name that could have James as a nickname would be a good compromise but I struggle to think of one.

Jamie in Mad About You was actually called James.

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 20:04

but your not using james as primary girl name, you're going for opt out of middle name, if you were truly so impressed with james as girl name you'd use it, you're not...so guess you're not really that impressed.but like to assert youre oh so liberal and over genderization of names

AlexanderSkarsgardOhYes · 28/08/2012 20:01

How is using it as a middle name a cop-out? Especially as seeker seems to think it's the equivalent of calling your DS Cheryl? Confused

If it's so out there it makes sense to phase it into usage slowly, starting with using it as a middle name.

Also I'll tell you something - I'd much rather have a James than add yet another Amelia or Chloe to the world.

Floggingmolly · 28/08/2012 19:57

Why is it a "beautiful name for a girl, just beautiful"? If you were asking for opinions on calling a boy James you would be told it was anything from old fashioned, dull, boring, safe, classic, etc, but "beautiful"? No.

MigratingCoconuts · 28/08/2012 19:53

Middle name = cop out.

You either do it or you don't. And if you do, make no mistake, it's the children to have to deal with any fall-out.

If you want non gender specific, then pick non gender specific.

TwiggysGoneOnHolidayByMistake · 28/08/2012 19:52

Helen Hunt played a character called James - at least, I think it was James. She was often called Jamie but her husband used to call her James and I was never sure if it was her actual name or his pet name for her. Either way, I really liked it on her and never even remotely thought of it as a boy's name - it was just her. But in real life - no, sorry :)

cocoachannel · 28/08/2012 19:51

I once knew someone whose parents added 'ia' to her Dad's name. Think Harold-ia.

James-ia?

Maybe not.

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 19:49

yes if it's all postmodern now call your son tallulah

seeker · 28/08/2012 19:47

Ok Alexander- put your money where your mouth is. Call your next ds Cheryl.
