How many girls named Eloise do you know?

Is it becoming very popular? I only know of one and I'm a teacher so thought I had a fairly good grip of what's popular at the moment but others have told me it's becoming more common. Any thoughts?

One but it's spelt Heloise.

Cleo123 · 29/08/2012 22:05

I know two one is 11 and the other is 31! Great name and love the Eloise books too, grea fiction character association!

roundynotsquary · 28/08/2012 23:13

One aged 18 months

SoozleQ · 28/08/2012 23:00

There's been an Eloise outbreak where I work. Four of us have named our daughters Eloise within the space of a couple of years. One of my colleagues announced the name to the office a couple of weeks before mine was born even though we'd decided on the name months earlier. I think we may be out the other side now, though. I've not heard of any more for a while. We're all just trying to think of different names for the second children... Grin

I only know of one more Eloise but she's late thirties now.

I don't think it is massively popular but I do think it is on the up. My cousin called her baby Eloise last year. It is a classic name so you always find a few Eloises about. My best friend at school was an Eloise and there was one in the year below me as well. I knew quite a few of them at uni (plus a few Heloises).

OhTheConfusion · 28/08/2012 20:40

Two.

One is 10 and a lovely, polite and funny girl... the other is 7 and whiney, rude and horrid :-/

Ambi · 28/08/2012 20:30

I picked this for DD as I love it too but DH felt she'd be spelling it for people too often so swapped to Louise. I still love Eloise though.

grumpykat · 28/08/2012 19:48

One, she's 11 and absolutely lovely- go for it!

Olympicnmix · 28/08/2012 19:47

Two of my intimate acquaintance, including my 5 yr old niece.

Three ranging from 13 to 3 months. Bigger ones are always referred to as Ellie though.

Pancakeflipper · 28/08/2012 19:23

I know a 11 yr old, 10 yr old, 7 yr old, 3 yr old and met a baby Eloise last week.

I always want to break out into song when I hear it as my mother loved Paul and Barry.

doblet · 28/08/2012 19:19

It would be on my shortlist but DH has vetoed

TheOriginalNutcracker · 28/08/2012 19:17

BobbiFleckman · 28/08/2012 17:06

Kaloo - did you also know that the Plaza Hotel now has an Eloise suite to stay in? was planning to take mine until we discovered the cost ($3k / night if you please, extra for breakfast i think) so may have to make do with afternoon tea and charge it please!

LadyLetch · 28/08/2012 17:03

No I don't think it is very popular, and I've got an Eloise so am probably more aware of the name.

When we named her, we didn't want her to have a very trendy name (therefore also a name that dates) and so we avoided anything in the top 75, and anything which had had a massive rise in popularity. When we looked, the highest placing Eloise had had from 1998 to 2002 was 75th. It mostly sat around the 85 - 100 mark. In fact, the year I had DD, it reached the height of its popularity, at around 75. When I had DD2, and was looking up names again, it had fallen in popularity and was then sitting just outside the top 100. That's where it seems to have sat ever since, around the 100 mark.

On a personal level (although I appreciate that this is annecdotal, so is not exactly statistically valid Grin), DD1 was in an infant school of about 275 children, she was the only one in her school. When we moved location, to a primary school of about 225 children, she was still the only one in her school. She goes to a gym club of about 700/800 children and I think I have seen 5/6 children with the name Eloise up on the birthday board at the club. Personally, I know her and two others - both at gymnastics!

In the past, I have taught 3/4 girls called Eloise. They would all be in their early 20s - early 30s now (I'm not that old, I teach secondary, honest Grin). All were lovely girls.

Kaloobear · 28/08/2012 13:21

I love the whole series Bobbi -it's why I love the name!

All aged 6-8, all in the same school (not mine). There are probably others in the school too, but the 'Eloise cluster' in Years 2-4 is local legend!

Mind you, my DCs both have children with the same names in their class, and I have never regretted the names I gave them, so popularity isn't by itself a reason to avoid a name.

BobbiFleckman · 28/08/2012 11:17

The Damned song is a cover of a 60s crooner version by Barry Ryan, and Paul McCartney did one too!

we have an Eloise and have met one other. We do however know FOUR Elodies of 5 and under which seems disporportionate.

Get yourself a copy of the book about Eloise who lives in teh Plaza Hotel in NY
