Scott or Robert - do you know any?

They are the 2 top names on our list at the moment, but I'm unsure about both of them because of the associations I have with the names - Roberts can be a bit wimpy IME and Scott (which I like, but I'm more unsure of because I don't know any under the age of 35) is a bit harsh... May have a tendency to be a bully... Simon is the other choice but I'm not sure about that one either!

Oh, and all grown ups...!

cocoachannel · 29/08/2012 18:25

I knew a few Roberts and whilst I've never made the connection before, they are all wimpy Confused

fanjodisfunction · 29/08/2012 17:49

Scott 27 hes a member of my extended family, also a Scott aged 10.

I know of a Robert aged 15. But also grew up with a Robert and I had a real big crush on him, and he was no way wimpy.

I think all of the names you have mentioned including Simon are classic timeless names.

regnamechange · 29/08/2012 17:42

I know two robs (Robert) and one scott

Clary · 29/08/2012 17:41

I know a 12yo Scott. He is a super boy.

Know a baby Robbie but not sure what it is short for.

Both somewhat of another age but not too badly so. Scott esp i think is good with a long-winded second name eg Scott Masterson or Scott Wrigglesworth.

Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 29/08/2012 17:37

My XH is called Scott and he's a complete twat.

I've never had any problems with Roberts though. Grin

carabos · 29/08/2012 17:27

Scott and Robert are both 45+ (although Robert is a lovely name).
Simon is the most boring man on earth.

3boysgirlontheway · 29/08/2012 13:41

My brother is Robert, he is in his mid-30's. I have always called him Rob, my mother is the only person who calls him Robert. Most of his friends call him a nickname based on his surname.

Stellan · 29/08/2012 13:17

I know two Scotts in their late teens/early twenties. One is an Oxford physics graduate and the other is DP's brother. Both are really nice so I have positive associations with the name.

I know a few Roberts but they are all known as Rob. I think it's a great name. I quite like names with a one syllable nickname like Nicholas/Nick, Thomas/Tom, Edward/Ed. I think Robert sits really nicely with that bunch.

Littlecherublegs · 29/08/2012 11:16

I know of one Scott and one Robert, both of whom are about 30.
Nice enough names in my opinion and underused for little babies these days.

Love Simon (though am slightly biased!!) and again, the ones I know are over 30 apart from one who is 11.

If it helps, of the Scotts, Roberts and Simons I know, they have brothers called Drew, Andrew, Daniel, Zac, and Adam.

MrsJohnDeere · 28/08/2012 18:33

I don't know any, children or adults.

HistoryNerd · 28/08/2012 18:17

Go with Simon, I love that name, its so underused these days

ThePieWhoLovedMe · 28/08/2012 15:09

Know lots of adult with all three of these names - I love Scott, not so keen on Robert and really do not like Simon

casper91 · 28/08/2012 12:51

Two scotts (21 and 25?) Both get called scotty socially. Also a rob and a bobby. Sorry about spelling/ grammar, bloody phone. If it helps bobby sounds a bit ancient to me.

FarelyKnutsAboutTheIrishTeam · 27/08/2012 20:02

One Rob who is lovely but a Bob (the knob as we call him) not so lovely.
One Scott who is a little bully and had put me off the name now.

fivegomadindorset · 27/08/2012 19:56

yes.

DorothyGherkins · 27/08/2012 19:55

I know a Scott who is 25. He is truly gorgeous. Lovely man.

Dogsmom · 27/08/2012 19:53

I'm mid 30's and know lots of Rob's, Scott's and Simon's my age.

I don't really associate any personality types to the names probably because I know so many and they are all different, my preference in order is Simon, Robert then Scott.

0percypig0 · 27/08/2012 19:30

I have a Robert, he's nearly four. As for being wimpy, yes he is a little bit. (I'm a bad mother for saying that!)

StrawberrytallCAKE · 27/08/2012 19:13

My Scott is as far away from a bully as you can get, he is also very handsome and wonderful.

I am not a fan of the name Robert, the only one I knew was a horrific egomaniac.

Yellowchair · 27/08/2012 17:44

I know two called Scott both over 30 . Quite a few Roberts again over 30 all known as Rob and one five year old Robert known as robbie.

mathanxiety · 27/08/2012 17:44

I know a 17 yo Scott and one who is mid 40s, and a Robert who is 1 plus a lot of older ones of many different generations, all with different nns.

Simon -- one in DD4's class, age 11.

MolatovBomb · 27/08/2012 17:38

I know a 30yo and 39yo Scott; I know a 36yo and a 46yo Robert (I know a 2yo officially named Robbie).

I love the name Robert because the NNs Rob and Robbie/Robby are so strong and masculine. Out of the two, that's what I'd pick - although Scott is v.nice.

itsjustmeanon · 27/08/2012 16:21

I know lots of Roberts, Robs, Robbies. They are all lovely.

The only Scott I know is 29 yo. He's lovely though, and very handsome.

Also, know lots of lovely Simons.

I like all your names.

wheredidiputit · 27/08/2012 16:11

I have a 3yr Robert and is no way wimpy, more thugish.

And I know a 7yr Scott.
