Favorite Jilly Cooper names?

I've just started Riders (having never picked up a Jilly Cooper novel before) and am fascinated by how Rupert is such a lout. Then there are loads of characters and dogs....

So, any names from any of her novels you'd use on an actual child? (or maybe you already have Wink )

Octavia - do you know that when the original book was published, the heroine's name was October Brennan, not Octavia Brennan. There's a bit in the story where she sobs that her mother was so neglectful that she couldn't even be bothered to think of a name for her new baby and just called her after the month she was born in. When all the girls's names' books were reissued as a series, the name was changed to fit in with the rest, ie Harriet and Bella etc.

And though it's not a name but a title, I am rather fond of Appassionata as a middle name perhaps!

My eldest daughter is Tabitha, but from Bewitched. (Shows how old I am!) My granddaughter is Nettie, not from the beloved Jilly Cooper pen but from another book which I am raving about called Prospero's Island which is as close to a new JC as I have been able to find - like her early ones with all the girl's names? I'm a bit obsessive about it as it was such an amazing find - a friend recommended it on Kindle. Have four cats, though, and they are all called Jilly Cooper names, how sad ... lol.

ooooh I LOVE these books and am currently reading Riders for the millionth time! I like: Dino (prob would not use), Fenella, Luke, Perdita, Red, Bibi, Francesca (chessie), violet....can't think of any more at the moment but there's loads more I'm sure :)

My dsis has always vowed to call her son Red since the day she read whichever JC book(s) he featured in!
I think I'll be a bit upset if she doesn't!

Riders and Rivals are available on kindle for about £4 for the two. Just finished rereading Riders this morning.

I wanted to call DS Rupert but wasn't allowed :( I didn't help my case by saying his nn would be Ruby, after I discovered that the jockey Ruby Walsh's name is Rupert.
I like Francesca/Chessie for a girl (Polo) but her character was a bit of a cow!
I actually did look through the character lists in all my Jilly books for inspiration!

DH is nagging me to get my holiday books ordered frm amazon... reckon i'll nip down the oxfam book shop and see if I can find Riders, Rivals and Polo Grin

Not read em since the years they came out.

He was the bloke from busted and she is a tv presenter and does those programmes on itv2 after the main itv show like I'm a celebrity etc, think she is doing the same for celebrity big brother at the moment.
