30wks with ds1 (dc2) and we have settled on a name but only because I can't find any that I like more than the picked one , not because I love it. I loved DDs name and still do so I'm finding it hard to just "settle" but it really is the only one I can imagine using .

Dis anyone else use a name that was best od a bit lot type thing and do you get used to it?

Yes because DH had his heart set on it and it's a nice enough name

foofooyeah · 23/08/2012 18:46

Yes, DS1 we couldnt rdecide on a name and went with one we quite liked, our fave name didnt go with surname (well known sportin person). Im still a bit Hmm about it 19 years later

DS2, DP had a name he really wanted to use - I wasnt sure but love it now.

MadStaringEyes · 23/08/2012 18:41
  • 1, 2 or 3 favourite name.
MadStaringEyes · 23/08/2012 18:41

I didn't even like ds1's name. Dp and i couldn't decide, so he told friends and family Ds1 had a name. His patents git to hospital, told me they were ok with his name, i Saudi i hated it. They told me i couldn't as they were used to it. I quite like it now.

Ds2's name i really love, even though it isn't my number 1, 2 or 3.

My dd has a name I like, but don't love. I love her middle name but I was swayed by other people's opinions. Neither of them are the name I loved though. Dh didn't like it the bastard

Annunziata · 23/08/2012 17:51

We had kind of run out of names we loved by DS4 Blush

IawnCont · 23/08/2012 17:51

Alan and Samantha! :o :o :o

It it difficult, I think. Our DS2 was named after my uncle, but it wasn't the name I wanted. DH had said in no uncertain terms that my no. 1 name was not to his taste even when I bought it up again when I was being stitched up after labour, looking to blackmail him emotionally... So we named him something I liked, but didn't adore.
I absolutely love it now. It suits him so well. It's a brilliant name!

DD got a name we both loved.

The two boys however got compromise names, as we had very different ideas on what was a suitable boy's name. However, I am more than happy with their names, so it all worked out fine in the end. On the other hand DD's name I would quite happily change if I had my time again.

Ilovedaintynuts · 23/08/2012 17:24

He thought (and still thinks!) Evie is too way out there Grin

Ilovedaintynuts · 23/08/2012 17:22

I have 3 DC's and I don't love any of their names.
My DH and I have such differing tastes that each name was one we could both 'tolerate'.

I still feel quite sad about it. But what can you do?

He wanted to call our DC Alan or Samantha Confused
When we married I had no idea he was stuck in the seventies.

LynetteScavo · 23/08/2012 17:16

And really, Amadeus wouldn't have suited him.

LynetteScavo · 23/08/2012 17:15

Yes, although I liked it.

DH was adamant; "This baby will be a boy, and we will call him X"

If DS had been a girl, I would have chosen the name, and DH would have taken about 2 minutes to get his head around the fact he had a daughter.Grin

Now, I cannot imagine DS being called anything else.

Dogsmom · 23/08/2012 17:12

I know mine will be end up with a name I don't love because I can't think of a single one that feels 'right', I've spent hours trawling name websites with no luck, all my favourite names have been used up on my dogs over the years :(

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and am hoping it's the sickness that's causing the apathy and I'll feel better in tri 2 and able to make a decision.

Psammead · 23/08/2012 15:44

I couldn't, I think.

MammaTonic · 23/08/2012 15:05

Yes, DD1s name was a compromise as DH and I foolishly vetoes each others no.1 choice. So, her name is one I initially liked but took a long time to love (she's 3.6yo now).

Didn't make the same error with DD2. I love, love, LOVE her name. Well, she took 2 years TTC and 6 Clomid cycles, so
I had more time than most to think about it!

We did with one of our triplets. I think I loved it at the time, but I was in a bit of a state with 3 prem newborns and couldn't decide between the 2 names - both beginning with 'A'.
It probably sounds horrible, but I know most children 'grow into' their name, regardless of what it is, but DD just really suits the other 'A' name :(
I wish I'd changed her name earlier, but DTriplets are 3 now and its a bit too late!!

RillaBlythe · 23/08/2012 15:00

We did tbh. Dd1's name we love, dd2's name was nice, she needed a name, & she was a week old so time was ticking. She's 11m now & I really like her name but it's still not a patch on Dd1's name to me.
