Just wondering what anybody thinks of Peggy for a baby girl? DH wants to name our DD3 after his Grandma. Her real name was Margaret which I don't like at all but everyone knew her as Peggy. I know that it is a popular name I France but I've never actually come across a child named Peggy. Honest opinions please :)

We've got a daughter with a middle name of Peggy, named after my wonderful granny. Go for it, enjoy the familial connection.

squoosh · 22/08/2012 17:51

Margaret is so frumpy though, I find it hard to reconcile the two names as they're so different.

On more than one occasion people have phoned my family home asking to speak to Margaret only to be told that 'no Margaret lives here. Byeeee'. And then an 'oh shit, wait, you mean my Mum' after we've hung up. Blush

i think it's lovely! i know a little-ish Peggy and the name reeeeeeally suits her!

tummytickler · 22/08/2012 17:48

My dd's nickname is Peggy-Sue (which is used nearly all the time). I absolutely love it! I would use Margaret on the bc though.

squoosh · 22/08/2012 17:31

My Mum is a Peggy so I love it! Doesn't seem to have been revived along with all the other maid's names, not lots of them around.

skippy84 · 22/08/2012 16:42

I like marguerite though - means daisy I think

skippy84 · 22/08/2012 16:42

I don't like it sorry I fear the piggy association for young children and I think it's very fusty and boring.
For some reason it reminds me of someone with a wooden leg. I have no idea why that is though.

almapudden · 22/08/2012 16:29

I like it but would put Margaret/Marguerita on the BC.

Mrsloverlovershabba · 22/08/2012 16:21

My Mum was Margaret, My Grandma was Margaret NN Peggy. It makes me feel all warm inside!

Flosie1989 · 22/08/2012 15:59

Edie is lovely Smile

FireOverBabylon · 22/08/2012 15:48

I have to say that I know it as a nickname and I hate Margaret as a name.

Much prefer Edie or Nancy.

WithACherryOnTop · 22/08/2012 15:42

Horrid.

javotte · 22/08/2012 15:41

There were a few girls named Peggy in France in the late 70s / early 80s but there are less than 10 a year nowadays (it is not even in the top 5000).

SomebodySaveMe · 22/08/2012 13:56

My great nan was Peggy. On its own not short for Margaret. I like it.

mrstowers · 22/08/2012 13:55

Peggy is nice but I prefer Maggie.

WopBopALooBop · 22/08/2012 13:55

Love :)

Flosie1989 · 22/08/2012 09:16

I love it! Do it! Such a cute name - baby Peggy Smile

MadBusLady · 22/08/2012 08:49

It's a nickname! Call her Margaret/Megan/Marguerite/Margareta/Margarita on the birth certificate and Peggy in real life.

lottiegarbanzo · 22/08/2012 08:26

Makes me think of Swallows and Amazons.

nenehooo · 22/08/2012 07:39

I know a little girl called Meghi (Meggy) which I love - prefer it to Peggy though can't saw why. I also love Meg and Maggie as nn. Lovely name, and if it has personal meaning then all the more reason to use it!

PrimaBallerina · 22/08/2012 07:30

Get out of my pub! Grin

It is lovely actually.

Coops79 · 22/08/2012 07:29

My car's called Peggy-Sue. My DH wouldn't countenance the name Peggy for a girl because of the potential for confusion. Grin

exoticfruits · 22/08/2012 07:25

I like Margaret but can never understand why you would want Peggy. If you put Margaret on the birth certificate it leaves her options open.

RustyBear · 22/08/2012 07:15

I know a Peggy who is not quite a year old, I think it's a lovely name!

Mama1980 · 22/08/2012 07:10

I LOVE it think it's a beautiful name. My great aunt was a Peggy christened just that not short for anything.
