Names you love but are too afraid to use???

Just that really. I'm pregnant with dc2 and I love lots of names but wouldn't have the guts to use some of them - silly I know!!!

One of my faves for a girl is Luna/Lunar.

My husband loves history and so our daughter's name, as well as possible future children's names, all have historical inspiration. He loves Alexander the Great, but Alexander is a normal name and I fell in love with the name Hephaestion, but we both felt it was a little too "out there".

We decided to do the opposite with our children and give them unusual first names, but plain middle names so they have the option of using their middle name if they don't like their first name.

I sneaked Gabriel in as a middle name, yes. Grin

My baby brother was 19 at the time, and he said Gabriel would be a fantastic name if we had a cool, guitar playing 17 year old. But he pointed out that 1) he might be a geeky, awkward 17 year old who hated the stand-out name, and 2) he had to survive to the age of 17, first.

That was when I conceded. (Though given my DB's own preference was Thor, I'm not sure he had a leg to stand on.)

I love the name Honoria for a girl, don't think it would go down too well with my family (or a Northern Irish accent) though Grin

I know its not a way out name but I always loved the name Rosalind (e) - it sounds so romantic and if I'd had a girl would have called her that.

I love the name Diego, always have, and it sounds great with our surname, DH wasn't brave enough though so we had to choose another, maybe next time!

Toughasoldboots - with the two Portias you know, do their names get shortened to anything (if so what?) and do people mistakenly think it has anything to do with the car?!

I know someone whose son is Lysander, but she's of Greek origin so there is a family connection to the name. It's a very glamorous name IMHO!

We seriously considered Orlando ( pre the Blooms rise to prominence) but chickened out. Also love Lysander.
We went for traditional English names instead like every other parent in DCs school

Have two boys (both names have appeared on this thread), but ...... would love 'Tulip' for a DD..... not that I'll ever have any more children. Sad

If DS had been a DD I wanted Sparkle. I also like Petal. DH was not loving the name Sparkle.
