So far ...

For boys i like Aneurin and Taliesin - but DP's not keen!

For girls I like Arianwen and Ceridwen
I also like Cerys and Seren but both a bit too popular now.

Any suggestions would be brilliant :)

I also like Nia for a girl and Griff for a boy.

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 16/08/2012 07:19

Angharad is a grest name Grin

TwllBach · 16/08/2012 07:08

I was at the Anglesey show yesterday and saw some names that I hadn't heard or had forgotten about yesterday:

Girls -
Elliw
Meinir
Eifion

Boys -
Gruffudd. I love this and may convince DP. It's just so lovely!

bronze · 16/08/2012 00:04

Cwtch
Wonder if that was me. I was tipoftheslung

I'm a Bronwen. Love my name. People know it but it's not that popular. I know of a few but have only ever met one in person

Plokahontas · 15/08/2012 22:05

shamelessly outing myself... my name is Cerian, which is beautiful with a lovely meaning. I go by ceri.

Avoid like the plague if you live in England though, unless you want a lifetime of being called kieran!

anicecuppatea · 15/08/2012 20:50

My granny's middle name is Ayronwen. She's always been Ronnie for short. Cute I think.

MrClaypole · 15/08/2012 15:31

We have an Aneirin. We used the less common old fashioned spelling cos it is easier for non welsh speakers to pronounce (we live in England)

Lots of people completely bemused by the name but in a nice way!

Also liked Eira, Eirlys, Mabli, Mali, Angharad and Cari

Cwtchbach · 15/08/2012 15:15

Ha ha, my DS and DD have lovers names (in that same legend) after my extensive research here on mumsnet and it real life with both Welsh speaking and non-Welsh speaking friends I found that only one person had heard the story. Which was good enough for me. Just hope they never make a film of it ;)

I also love Non, Menna, Gwilym, and Ieuan (although that would be a tongue twister with DS)

redpanda13 · 15/08/2012 14:03

Gosh Welsh names are lovely.

downbythewater · 15/08/2012 12:29

Meredith
Alys
Carys
Eirwen
Mali

all lovely girl names

for boys, I agree with Gethin, and also like Huw

CelticOlympian · 15/08/2012 11:19

I know a small Rhydderch.

twll Taliesin is pronounced Tal-yes-in, emphasis on the 'yes'.

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 15/08/2012 07:01

I have an Uncle Aneurin.
And an Auntie Eirwen.

Lovely names.
There's always Rytherch (sp?) . My dad went to school with a Rytherch Prytherch.

My name is on someone's list...very unusual . I am not going to tell you which one!

Welsh names are beautiful.

mathanxiety · 15/08/2012 06:46

I love Angharad and Eirlys.

Also Geraint and Aneurin.

Janoschi · 15/08/2012 02:48

I LOVE Siwan and wanted it very badly for little DD. Being pregnant and hormonal, I got hung up on the fact her surname begins with K, then couldn't get past the word 'wank' hidden in her name. Which probably doesn't occur to most folk and if that's the case, I feel very Sad for not picking it!

TwllBach · 15/08/2012 00:10

To be honest, I really like Aderyn as well. I know it's 'bird' but it seems to me that names that mean things are still quite Popular in Wales and she could be Addie or Ryn or something for short

TwllBach · 15/08/2012 00:08

I've always liked Heledd - I think it's hardd iawn Grin my friend likes Enfys, and I saw Esyllt recently and thought it sweet. I also taught a little Siwan recently. And I've just remembered that I like Gwenllian too.

Can I ask how you pronounce Taliesin? I've only ever seen it written down and think its lovely. DP likes Dylan for a boy but most of my family are English so he'd be called Dillon by my family instead of the roper welsh version.

ColourMeWithChaos · 14/08/2012 23:57

Your DS has a beautiful name!

Girls:
Aelwen
Ariana
Bronwyn
Carys
Catrin
Delia
Elen
Elwyn
Gwenyth
Isolde
Morwen
Olwen
Rhiannon
Tegan

Boys:
Cassian
Floyd
Geraint
Ioan
Tristan
Tristram

Polyethyl · 14/08/2012 23:57

My grandmother was called Eira. If my bump is a girl, and is born on a snowy day (due late Jan) then I've warned my English husband she'll be named Eira.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 14/08/2012 23:57

quite an exhaustive list!

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 14/08/2012 23:51

What about Selyf for a boy? It's the Welsh equivalent of Seth if I remember rightly.

Then there is always Welsh spelling such as Harri, Sian etc.

babynamesonly · 14/08/2012 23:46

I like Angharad. But it's my middle name so I would.

babynamesonly · 14/08/2012 23:44

I have changed my name briefly because this is an easy out Wink.

I have a Taliesin. It's a brilliant name, I love it. Tal for short. I might also have Aneurin in mind if I ever have another boy...

I also love Llyr and Euros. And Guto.

gemmalou123 · 14/08/2012 23:42

Used to know a little girl called ffion. Thought that was a beautiful name. Lovely little girl too :)

bronze · 14/08/2012 23:36

Elin eleri and eira are my favourites
