I think I like old fashioned names - anyone care to share what their grandmothers/great-grandmothers were called.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

MonaLotte · 14/08/2012 13:05

Great grandma was Barbara
Great Aunt is Christian

PenelopePipPop · 14/08/2012 13:01

Petty Prudence if your DD ever complains about her family name you can point out it was that or Maud.

In our case we had Margaret, Rose and Bernadette! I hope no one called Bernadette feels hurt by this but err no. Just no.

CaptainHetty · 14/08/2012 12:58

Sylvia and Anne

pettyprudence · 14/08/2012 12:55

GM - Elizabeth Mary
GM - Elizabeth (lilly for short)
GGM - Alice-Maud (what I was nearly called but GM said GGM hated her name, no idea why!)
GGM - Mary

GMil - Elizabeth Reida
GMil - Elizabeth Joan

Me and DM also have a Elizabeth in our name so if I ever have a DD she will be Elizabeth too (Betty for short)

Not much inspiration in our families Grin. All the men seemed to have been called Thomas or David too. My family tree looks very uninspiring when written down!

newmum001 · 14/08/2012 12:34

Theresa and iris. Can't for the life of me think what my great grandma's were called. Among the more unusual of my great aunties names are nora, monica and michaelina (mick-a-lina).

SorrelForbes · 14/08/2012 12:34

Me: Frances and Tilly
DH: Audrey and Rita
(I prefer mine!)

GGM: Rebecca (Rifka), Mary Jane and Jemima

Sabriel · 14/08/2012 12:34

Lucy and Flora.

Great Aunts Hilda and Edith (k/a Dolly)

PenelopePipPop · 14/08/2012 12:33

Margaret and err Margaret

Mother is Margaret, I also have an Aunt Margaret (on the other side).

My middle name is Margaret.

Great Grannies were Margaret, Margaret, Margaret and Rose.

Dd is called Rose. A radical break with tradition there.

NoComet · 14/08/2012 12:32

And Great Auntie Rena some of whines kitchen stuff I still have, so I shouldn't have forgotten her.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 14/08/2012 12:31

NoComet · 14/08/2012 12:30

Grandmothers and great aunts here.

Evelyn, Beryl, Mary, Gladys, May, Beryl, Emily and Vera

MushroomBurger · 14/08/2012 12:25

Wow, amazing how many of these names are back in fashion now!
Mine: Helen (always Nell) and Deborah.
DH's: Cynthia and Daphne

I'd love to use any of them for a future DD, they are all just lovely.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 14/08/2012 12:24

I'm loving this thread!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/08/2012 12:21

Joyce and Irene. Granny was always called 'Joy', which is lovely.

Lots of lovely names on this thread.

Other old family names - Hester, Marie (said like 'marry' not like Marie, so I never knew it was the same name - the emphasis is on the first syllable not the second), Audrey and Constance.

I like Constance as a name but would never use it - too much potential for irony!

ooma · 14/08/2012 12:21

Jessie/Susan
Lucy/Sarah
