I think I like old fashioned names - anyone care to share what their grandmothers/great-grandmothers were called.

Peggy's mother was Olive.
Hilda's mother was Lily.

All lovely names.

Great Aunt Olive. Can't remember my great grandma's names - they all died either before I was born, not long after, and I only knew the remaining one as 'Gramma'!

CouthyMow · 26/08/2012 21:57

Moira and Brenda. And both HATE their names!

frutilla · 26/08/2012 21:45

Ida Mary and Beatrice nn Betty

Spice17 · 26/08/2012 21:25

Had to post on this - my gran was called Vilma.

I bet no one else has a relation called that, never heard anyone else called it (and she wasn't German or anything - know it sounds a bit like it is)

goingtoexplodesoon · 26/08/2012 17:47

Miriam (I think it would fit a litte girl too, it's a very sweet name), middle name being Gladys, and Alice, middle name being Lilith. However, the elderly people I know with nice old names include Henrietta, Hepzibah, Evelyn, Rowena, Wendoline, Norma, Esther, Elspeth, Ruth, Verity and Florence.

freerangelady · 21/08/2012 19:29

My granny was one of eight; they were in order:
Marjorie
Dorothy (known as dot)
Maud
Norma
Lorna (norma and Lorna were twins!)
Mabel
Amy

Annoyingly I can't remember the last one!

badtime · 21/08/2012 17:31

Great aunts etc: Eva, Nelly, Mabel, Margaret, Ella, Meta (pronounced Meat-a). Many more I can't remember.

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 21/08/2012 17:31

Both called Betty!
