If you were going to call your kids after your favourite novel characters....

What names would you choose?

I think mine would by Ayla for a girl (from the earth children series) and Harry for a boy (from Harry Potter Blush)

I'm so pleased to see some Dark Is Rising fans. DS5 was actually named from those books (Barney & Simon)

I also love Phil Rickman, and Merrily is such a pretty name but I'd worry I'd end up giving birth to a miserable girl!

Stephen Lawhead is another of my faves and I love the names Taliesin (boy) and Charis (girl)

I've always assumed Titty's name was Letitia, which I do like.

Love Dorothea, as it was my adored granny's name , though I find her irritating.

Sally, both from Enid Blyton ( I much preferred both her and her name to the androgynous Darrell) and a wonderful 1950s book called Sally's Family published by the Seagull Library.

Nicola, from the Marlowes.

Jessica and Portia from the Merchant of Venice.

But we only had a Ds.

I did this.

My eldest dd is named after the second Miss Bennett.

I read it at a young age. I think she (the character, obviously) was my first girl crush.

Atticus or Titus (Gormenghast trilogy) for a boy. Sadly, although his character is far more memorable, Steerpike is not a name I would suggest! From children's books, Chrestomanci.

Girls more tricky - favourite would obviously be Scout, but I suppose Anne (of Green Gables) or Esme (Weatherwax, Discworld) are in the running too.

I am actually about to read 'Rebecca's Tale' - which I think her estate sanctioned (not sure about that)- which is intended to be her side of the story.

They are still my favourite characters. I didn't claim they were nice people Grin. I am never sure about Rebecca though - it's all come second hand from the husband and he does rather have motive for painting a nasty picture...

Some fabulous names here. I love Ged (Earthsea - beats HP off the globe), Lyra and I always liked Charlotte from C's web. I'm sure there's more ... Atticus obviously and Finn (Finn McCool - Irish Giant).

Oh and Wart from one of the Arthur books (TH White)

Hhhm, Heathcliff (Bronte), Rebecca (Du Maurier), Scout (Lee) and probably Offred (Atwood). Probably for the best I didn't - Rebecca would be fine but I'm not sure about the others.
