Beau or Gabriel, Poppy or Juliet

Have a DD called Amelie Lola..pregnant with my second and we don't know the sex yet. Was thinking of continuing the French theme with Juliet for a girl and Gabriel for a boy. But OH is not keen. He likes Beau for a boy and Poppy for a girl. I like them but think Beau could be taken the p* out of at school (B.O?!) and Poppy is lovely but maybe too common.
Every other name I mention he doesn't like!!

Any opinions on these names..or suggestions to go with sibling Amelie?

Gabriel and Juliet. Don't like Poppy or Beau

MagdalenaAlec · 12/08/2012 14:42

Gabriel - Love it!
Juliet - not keen on Juliet but it is a timeless elegant name, I can see the appeal. French spelling is Juliette
Beau - really do not like it. Being French, I find it v weird.
Poppy- like it

Other ideas:

  • A French flower name ending like Juliet: Violette! (trying to make everyone happy :o )
  • Other French flower names: Capucine, Iris, Eglantine, Hortense, Veronique, Lilas (pronounced Lee-lah - no "s" sound), Angelique, Marjolaine, Anemone, Garance (a bit posh in France), Valeriane...
  • Similar to Juliette (ie, v feminine and timeless): Mariette, Marielle, Charlotte, Justine, Camille, Noemie, Valentine ("vah-lahn-teen"), Cecile, Marianne, Heloise/Eloise, Elise..
  • Similar to Gabriel: Raphael, Baptiste, Clement, Bastien, Florian, Gregoire, Matheo, Mathis, Nathan, Paul, Julien, Julian, Remi..

Poppy too popular...like the other names apart from Beau.

I am not really feeling any of them but if I had to choose (struggling here) I would go for Julia but not Juliet.

Vivienne or Gabriel are both lovely.

AThingInYourLife · 09/08/2012 18:39

Harry Beau :o

tinyeyes123 · 09/08/2012 18:02

Elodie and Louis

AThingInYourLife · 09/08/2012 17:41

Harry Beau :o

mathanxiety · 09/08/2012 16:42

Vivienne and Juliet are lovely.
I think Poppy is very insubstantial. Nice as a nn for something else and maybe charming for a baby and little girl, but not a name for a woman in her 40s.

How about
Raphael
Dominic
Benedict
Elliott
Nicholas
Sebastien
Felix
Louis
Fabian
Lucien
Christian
Henry

Beau => don't do it

Juliette (French spelling) is pretty too. Gabriel also very nice.

I like Beau, I can see how he could be called b.o. as another poster mentioned but then Gabriel would be called Gay, there are very few names that can't be turned into a negative nickname.

Out of the girls choices it would be Juliet purely because she'd be less likely to have a few schoolmates with the same name.

imustbepatient · 09/08/2012 13:11

Camille?
Hugo?

Wildwaterfalls · 09/08/2012 12:28

I prefer your choices too! How about Celeste for a girl, to continue the French theme?

Badgerina · 09/08/2012 12:20

Your choices are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay nicer. Beau is awful I'm afraid. Poppy not much better.

CecilyP · 09/08/2012 11:05

I prefer your choices; well, I actually like your choices. Not too keen on Beau though I could live with Poppy, I suppose.

Elias?

Jonah?

thisisyesterday · 09/08/2012 10:38

round here I would say Violet is a lot more popular than Poppy

thisisyesterday · 09/08/2012 10:38

i love Gabriel and Beau

ds2 is Gabriel, and we had Beau on the list for him and DS3

also like Juliet and Poppy as well! both lovely names

AThingInYourLife · 09/08/2012 10:36

Jude?

Nora?

mummabug · 09/08/2012 09:58

Thanks for the feedback.
I have definitely decided we can't have Beau. It sounds too feminine and too much potential for teasing at school...little bo beep..? B.o...?

Gabriel I like but OH dead against. Back to the drawing board.

Leo?

I used to love Milo...but not sure now a lot of people say dog/tweenies when I mention it. I also like Caspar but OH against.

Poppy is lovely but yes too popular unfortunately.

Other girls names I like are Vivienne, Violet (too popular?) and Belle.
