bump is tiny, but thinking about names already!

She / he will be part Welsh, Scottish, Irish and English.

We like the more unusual names - to give you an idea, boys names we like include Inigo, Oisín and Taliesin.

I'm a bit stuck on girls names, I'd be grateful to hear any ideas!

TIA :)

I like the simple Mairi or Mhari - which is pronounced Varry - I actually know a Varry too.

Once people are told once how to spell/pronounce a name they usually get the gist of it, so don't worry! There are lots of lovely names from Ireland, Scotland and Wales, so how about -

Ffion
Nia
Catrin
Tegan
Bethan
Ciara
Éabha/Aoibhe
Iona

Ciaran
Euan/Owen/Eoghan

What is your DS's name? Am on the hunt for Scottish boys name for the totally hypothetical male dc3...

BonaDea · 08/08/2012 16:28

Definitely Ay-lee for Eilidh (like Ceilidh, the Scottish dance).

TwelveLeggedWalk · 08/08/2012 16:00

Bethan
Fallon

Aufaniae: "Ooh I like Glensi, Ceinwen and Eithne."

Glesni is currently the hot fave for me. It's also the name of a lovely, lovely student gym teacher we had, who was offered a job with our school when she got back from travelling the world. Tragically she was killed in Thailand and the whole school was heartbroken.

It sort of means 'purity' and she was one of the loveliest people I ever met.

Do you know, that book looks very familiar. I think my dad got it for me when we were naming DC1. That was 3 house moves ago.

Now where is it now? Umm ...

Osia's lovely too. I hadn't heard of that before.

Ooh I like Tesni too.

It means "warmth from the sun" (well according to the first google link I found. anyway)

oops pressed post too soon (due to DD2 climbing all over me).

I know of a female Osia (Osha) which I assume is the female Osian/Oisin.

I found this book very useful when we were trying to find a name for DC2.

mejon · 08/08/2012 13:11

Using names you already like as inspiration what about
Tesni
Siwan

squoosh · 08/08/2012 13:10

my surname has to be spelt every time. Doesn't bother me in the slightest, why should it?

Who said spelling your surname should bother you??

But unsurprisingly having to constantly spell their name out does bother other people?

threeleftfeet · 08/08/2012 13:00

oops, I meant Oisin is lovely, isn't it!

OP posts:
threeleftfeet · 08/08/2012 12:56

Oisin is lovely isn't. Just finding girls names harder for some reason!

Maybe should wait till we know what it is this time, but we hadn't agreed a name for DS1 until after he was born. Would quite like to do it a bit earlier this time!

MaryHansack · 08/08/2012 12:56

well unless your name is Smith or Jones...you will have to spell it out whatever your name is.
surnames are different somehow....mind you I did suffer slightly with mine, and it is really not that strange...

threeleftfeet · 08/08/2012 12:55

"effit, make those complacent English twist their tongues!!" Grin

hmm I see what you mean...effit, make those complacent English twist their tongues!!

There was a girl at my London school called Ceinwen....that's a pretty name.
I love Oisin and Roisin.

threeleftfeet · 08/08/2012 12:48

Ooh I like Glensi, Ceinwen and Eithne.

The list is growing :)

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/08/2012 12:46

excuse me, but Nerys isn't a 'bit naff'. It's my middle name and a very good Welsh name I'll have you know!

threeleftfeet · 08/08/2012 12:45

MaryHansack I totally understand that your comments were well-intentioned, and not meant to be political.

Such a stance is political though, however unwitting.
