Hi everyone.
Had gorgeous boy on Thursday. Have decided to call him George Thomas Walker. Was so pleased with this until MIL has made horrible remarks such as George at Asda! Georgie Porgie and George Bush. I do not need to hear these comments when I'm so tired and emotional anyway and wanted your thoughts on name George? Do you like it? His big sisters name is Poppy.
Thanks so much x

How rude of your mil!

George is perfectly cute and acceptable. I have an Alfie and a jack and not everyone likes the names as they are so popular.

As.if.i.care

My boys, our name choices and they suit their names perfectly.

CongratulationsGrin

My DD has named my bump 'George' after George Pig from Peppa Pig. I like it.:)

jaffacakehips · 06/08/2012 09:48

Congratulations!

Lovely lovely name. Poppy and George...delightful Smile

You MIL needs to get a grip, if she gobs off again. I'll come round and lamp her for you Grin

Ham69 · 06/08/2012 09:37

Don't you just love MILs! I think both of your children's names are fab. They sound great together. Hopefully you'll be able to laugh about your MIL's ignorance one day. Enjoy your new baby and don't give MIL's comments a second thought. Congratulations.

emmyloo2 · 06/08/2012 07:52

My 21 month old is called George Alexander. He gets called George or Georgie. He calls himself Georgie as well. It's a fabulous name. Solid, traditional and you never have to spell it for people. Your MIL is an idiot and is best ignored. How rude of her anyway! Actually my SIL when my DH told her our 30 minute old baby was called George said "as in George from Seinfeld?". Hmm We said "No. He is George as in his great grandfather" (what a numpty!).

Stick with it. It's a great name!

Doilooklikeagoldmedallist · 05/08/2012 21:19

I have a George .
I called him Porgie when he was a baby not a chubby baby Oh No
His older nephews called him Bush baby or Dubbya ( George Dubbya< W> Bush )
Whatever name you choose , someone will find something helpful to say ?
George is a lovely name .

2gorgeousboys · 05/08/2012 21:16

I have a George (DS2). I call him Georgie, to everyone else he's George or according to his teacher last year "Gorgeous Georgous".

He was most impressed when we were at Asda and he found his name on clothes!

mummyonvalium · 05/08/2012 21:13

I love the name George. My grandfather was called George and he was brave, kind and gracious. It is a name that only brings good feelings to me.

OlivesTorchStreak · 05/08/2012 21:09

I LOVE George. It is my 80 year old Grandad's name. It was a great name then and it's a great name now.

Congratulations on your baby boy.

Chubfuddler · 05/08/2012 21:02

And it perfectly passes the Governor of the bank of Enfland or dustbin man test. It's a great name.

Chubfuddler · 05/08/2012 21:01

My son is called George. Best boys name ever. Ignore ignore ignore.

Stannwigg · 05/08/2012 20:58

I have a Georgina (5) and she told me not to bother writing her name in her school cardigans as its already written!

George is lovely. Tell your MIL to bog off.

LynetteScavo · 05/08/2012 20:54

George is a fine name!

Your MIL is being very rude. It's her job to support you at this time, which she is failing to do. However much she hates a name you choose she should shut up and smile. I'm quite Angry for you.

thedevilisinthedetail · 05/08/2012 20:52

How ridiculous if your MIL! Totally ignore her! George is fab, we have one and I really wanted Poppy for his older sister but was vetoed by DH.

Level3at6months · 05/08/2012 20:50

Lovely, lovely name. Doesn't date, sounds great for a baby and when he's grown up. Take no notice of her.

GnocchiNineDoors · 05/08/2012 20:49

Love it adds to list for potential dss

NarkedRaspberry · 05/08/2012 20:48

If you'd like I'm sure we could come up with a few names for your MIL.

George is nice.

Tiptoeing · 05/08/2012 20:47

Pretend to have taken it to heart and have registered him as 'Dazzle' instead so he's cool at school.

btw it's a name that pretty hard to take offence at! It's a sweet name for a little boy and good for a man too

turningvioletviolet · 05/08/2012 20:47

I have a 15 yr old George - as fab now as it was when he was little. Occasionally known as Georgie in the family but never had any bad comments. A timeless classic imo - you can be whatever you want with a name like George. Forget what mil says. and many congratulations on your new baby George - brings back happy memories of when my now 6 footer was tiny!

2to4OMG · 05/08/2012 20:42

Congrats on DS. MIL seems a bit daft. George one of my favourite names.

drcrab · 05/08/2012 20:41

I have a George and he's brilliant. Everyone calls him George. His little sister calls him Georgie. Smile other nicknames are G. It's a lovely name. Ignore mil.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 05/08/2012 20:41

It's a lovely name!

Say ok we agree to have something all modern so we are going to call him thunder-clap.

Gugglebum · 05/08/2012 20:40

That is a wonderful name. My MIL used to tell me my babies were overweight or behind, or any number of things. Some of them are incapable of being kind. I'm sorry you're having to deal with her when you should just be enjoying your baby. Don't doubt your choice because of one nasty lady. You chose well!

PepperOnMyPaprikash · 05/08/2012 20:30

Love it - my favourite boys' name. Pay no attention to your MIL.

And congratulations!

birdofthenorth · 05/08/2012 20:21

Lovely name. I know two cute young Georges. And a lovely older George, too.
