A colleague at work had her baby today ... And called him Maximus.

How can you not think of Russell Crowe and gladiator?!

I prefer it to Maxwell which makes me think of instant coffee. It'll be Max though I bet. Which is one the most popular boys names, so very very far from being 'out there'. If I'd clicked on this and seen Howard or Geoffrey I would have thought now that's interesting!

perplexedpirate · 03/08/2012 12:18

I love Maximus.
When I saw the title I thought the name was 'Seriously'. which i actually kind of like too! Grin

TittyWhistles · 03/08/2012 11:14

Sailor?? Fantastic!

We seriously had CAPTAIN on our list for ds a couple of years ago. (dads got a very posh surname and Captain would have been marvellous but we chickened out.. Sad

PedanticPanda · 03/08/2012 11:14

I love it. I've a friend called Maxwell and he's always said he'd rather be called Maximus as it sounds better.

BuntCadger · 03/08/2012 11:11

Bugger, baby waking. Going to have to be sensible now.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 03/08/2012 11:10

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 03/08/2012 11:09

I have taught 3 boys called Maximus.

I like it!

yellowflowers · 02/08/2012 22:54

And his sister Minimus (nn Minnie)?

Ruprekt · 02/08/2012 22:37

We nearly called DS Maximus but bottled out at the end and called him Max.

We do use Maximus as a nickname though.

However, I take your Maximus and raise it with the name my friend has given her son........

SAILOR.

I kid thee not.

meetupmisery · 02/08/2012 22:37

Cats name

MrsRhettButler · 02/08/2012 22:35

Its not exactly unusual is it?

(My dog is called Max and we call him Maximus)

boyfallingoutofthesky · 02/08/2012 22:31

I would just think it is a bit of a risky name if he turns out to be small and weedy!

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 02/08/2012 21:28

Never seen the film. Don't know who Russell Crowe is.
The Maximus I know is NN Mouse.

SirBoobAlot · 02/08/2012 21:27

I read it in the Gladiator voice.

VolAuVent · 02/08/2012 21:25

Maximus is a great name, with Max for short. It's a Latin name which was popular with early Christians, so it's not just a fad - can't get more traditional really!

I'm not aware of the Russell Crowe/Gladiator connections.

I love it. Great, solid name. I'm less keen on the nickname Max though...

LexieSinclair · 02/08/2012 20:59

I love Maximus, and what's wrong with being associated with Russell Crowe in the Gladiator? Fab film!

coffeeandcream · 02/08/2012 20:56

Well I'm sure he'll be the only one in his class at school! I guess I'm more of a traditionalist Smile
