Still in search of that elusive boy's name...

due date getting ever closer, and we are still undecided as to a name for dc4 - our first boy.

we think we have narrowed it down to:

Arthur- love this, but it doesn't lend itself to shortening/nicknames easily (other than Art/Artie which we are not keen on)

Rufus - dh reckons we shouldn't, as any child is unlikely to be red-headed (we are a bond-haired/blue eyed family). Possibly a bit too nicknamey/informal as well. don't know.

Caspar - maybe a bit too out there, and of course the friendly ghost issue. Not sure it goes well with our other dc.

Peregrine - would be known as Pippin/Pip. I love Pippin, not so keen on Peregrine - dh has decided he doesn't like Philip. Is there anything else that could shorten to Pippin?

I know a Peregrine and it is shortened to Pez. Actually really like it as the guy was lovely.

Really don't like Rufus. Rufus the doofus. Though you may not have that association if outside Scotland Blush

Xander?

Cassius?

Of your four I like Rufus the most. Like you, I love Pippin but not Peregrine.

Ahem! Rufus is nice! -In our house it means rascal!! Pippin is Aunty mabels dog in Come out1`1side. Arthur ok Caspar - unfortunately - the friendly ghost always pops into my mind and Peregrine = falcon to me! What about Bartholomew or Evan (my boys name choice - had 3 girls!)

Arthur - I want to like it but I am not sure about it.

Rufus - always makes me think of a dogs name

Caspar - awful, along the lines of Crispen imo

Peregrine - the only one I know is shortened to Perry.

peanutMD · 29/07/2012 14:55

not keen on any of those names as I personally think they are a bit too 'upper class' although Rufus is becoming popular due to the comedian.

Arthur is the nicest.

How about:
Benedict
Oscar
Oliver
Lucas
Gregory

I really like Rufus and Caspar.

roteelefant · 29/07/2012 14:45

Caspar - I don't like (but the ex-b may be colouring it for me)

Arthur- the lack of obvious nn would annoy me but I do like Art

Rufus- I really like (and you don't have to have red hair mr wainwright doesn't)

I like pippin and pepin. Peregrine is horrible but yet somehow Peregrin isn't as bad maybe it because of the hobbit?
