So it seems to be quite a marmite name! It's grown on me and DP quite a bit especially as it goes well with his name and with James.

I like it.

birdofthenorth · 31/07/2012 15:41

Oh I see. I think James Tate known as Tate is pretty cool.

chipsandmushypeas · 29/07/2012 19:59

bird in our family the men use the middle name and the first name is James so he would go by his middle name. Nate is nice too

When you say "after James" OP do you mean as a middle name or that your DS1 is James?

I quite like Tate, would definitely spell it without the Y. It'd be a good unusual middle name.

If it's for a first name have you considered Nathaniel nn Nate?

chipsandmushypeas · 29/07/2012 13:29

So are Edwards.

Tates are potatoes.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 29/07/2012 06:27

I wouldn't. If you put them in all new clothes, would they be "Tate Modern"?

almapudden · 29/07/2012 06:21

Mercedes is fucking awful.

almapudden · 29/07/2012 06:20

won would

almapudden · 29/07/2012 06:20

It's very American. I won spell it Tate. Fwiw, I know a lovely (American) Tate!

Newtothisstuff · 29/07/2012 05:57

I think James Tate is lovely ! Grin
I'm also a little shocked that Mercedes gets a thumbs up on here, I only read that thread because I thought there would be some flaming going on !!

tinyshinyanddon · 29/07/2012 03:01

I know a 4 year old Tate. We are in the USA but I think Daddy is English. I think its nice - makes me think of the gallery.

Devora · 29/07/2012 00:17

Mercedes is a proper name!

How about James Louis, James Noah, James Arthur?

gymboywalton · 28/07/2012 23:59

mercedes is a traditional spanish name-the bmw car was named after the designers[?] daughter

chipsandmushypeas · 27/07/2012 12:57

Ok, starting to worry about mn. Just seen the name Mercedes is very much liked yet Tate got "yuk!!" and "awful-ugly" ? Am I missing something?!

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/07/2012 11:49

No, don't like it. No family names to use, either French or English?

mollymole · 27/07/2012 11:43

YUK !!

5madthings · 27/07/2012 11:42

i like Tate, had my dd been a boy that was going to be her middle name :)

belgo · 27/07/2012 11:40

I think Tate is fine, as a first name or a middle name.

squoosh · 27/07/2012 11:39

I actually love the name Lyle, don't like Tate quite so much.

shimmy0 · 27/07/2012 11:05

Why not have a French middle name then?

lollystix · 27/07/2012 11:04

I saw it and thought 'and lyle' (but I have just drunk half a bottle of wine) Grin.

UnimaginitiveDadThemedUsername · 27/07/2012 11:04

James Montgomery

chipsandmushypeas · 27/07/2012 11:03

I don't really want another traditionally English name after James though, especially as my DPs surname is French double barrelled. Wanted something a little different but not too out there
