Lilia or Claudia?

We have a 2 week old baby girl who is still nameless. We had decided on Claudia but the "Claw" part is now turning me off. I was against Lilia because all those names are so popular but it's growing on me. I'm here asking for your kind advice, which one do you prefer?

I love Claudia! And Claudie as a nn :)

PeachesMac · 01/09/2012 14:55

I'm so glad you decided on Claudia. It's so beautiful. I have a six year old Claudia and I love the fact it's not too common. Everyone always comments on what a beautiful name it is. I've never regretted calling my little girl Claudia. Love, love, love it!

HowCanADoorBeAJar · 21/07/2012 10:22

We've gone back to our orginal name. Claudia Rose is officially named! Thanks for all the help.

I have Claudia - means lame
I have Amelia - means something to do with losing limbs
If dc3 is another girl I will also have a Cassandra

Clearly name meanings mean little to me Wink

Any updates, OP?

marge2 · 18/07/2012 13:37

how about Lila instead of Lilia.?

sammyleh · 18/07/2012 13:35

I don't think that the meaning of a name should add any weight to your decision if you like it. When I name my baby girl later this year, it will be because I like the name, because those also with that name are inspirational and wonderful people, and because the name suits her :)

erikali · 18/07/2012 13:09

I would never call my baby Claudia because it means disabled.
Lilia sounds very femine and pretty.

tammytoby · 18/07/2012 11:35

I'm afraid I can't see past the meaning of Claudia (lame/disabled) but perhaps I have studied too much Latin Smile. Also, I prefer the German pronunciation (Clowd-ya) rather than the harsh sounding English Claw-dya)

Lilia, on the other hand, is beautiful, as is Lydia!

Love that maldive moment!

calypso2008 · 17/07/2012 10:47

I love Claudia - classy and elegant, will also 'age' well - a 40 year old Claudia is lovely, as is a 4 year old Claudia!

dillnameddog · 17/07/2012 10:42

If you have gone off the name CLaudia, then think again. I don't like Lilia- it is the sort of name that you would go off I think. Lydia is a beautiful combination of the two, I think.

sammyleh · 17/07/2012 10:40

Or, if you cant decide... how about a combination of the two, like Lidia, or Lydia? My cousin is called Lydia and I think its a beautiful name. Do love Claudia though :) x

Tangfasticlady · 17/07/2012 09:49

I also have a Claudia nn Claudie or Clauds by her friends.

maldivemoment · 17/07/2012 09:45

We have a 2 week old Claudia! Go with Claudia - you'll love it!

Lovely seeing all the positive comments on here regarding our choice of name.

A good piece of advice I read (poss on here) was 'does the name fit into these 3 sentences...?'

  1. Can X came out to play?
  2. Is X ready for promotion?
  3. X will you marry me?

Of course I am completely biased but I think Claudia fits perfectly in all 3!

VolAuVent · 16/07/2012 21:59

Lilia, definitely! It's a really pretty and flowing sound.

I find Claudia a bit harsh.

Sara13 · 16/07/2012 20:45

I too have a Claudia and we call her Claudie as a nickname, always get lots of comments on her name .... Have you decided

BillyBollyBandy · 16/07/2012 20:35

I have a Claudia, nn Claudie or Coco.

planetpotty · 16/07/2012 20:33

Claudia - try it on for size and have a test run day Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/07/2012 20:32

Claudia is really lovely.

HowCanADoorBeAJar · 16/07/2012 20:28

Thanks!. We had almost 100 hundred percent decided on Claudia but when I saw her, I changed my mind. She doesn't seem to look like a particular name. My mum thinks I'm ridiculous and said babies don't look like names, they look like babies. I think it's the hormones. Grin Will take your thoughts away and have another chat with DH.

I would go with Claudia as Lilia (or versions of it way too popular).

You could call her Claude. Or Claudie. I don't even notice the "Claw" sound you are worried about.

kerala · 16/07/2012 12:49

Definitely Claudia. There are legions of Lilys its totally overdone and Lilia will become Lily to her friends I would think. Love Claudia cool and adult.

catus · 16/07/2012 12:40

Claudia. Definitely. A lovely name.
Lilia, not so much to be honest. Too delicate.
