I think there are probably no baby girls called:
Andrea
Lisa
Joanne
Thelma
Michelle
Kelly
Amanda
Tracy
Karen
Tina
Wendy

If we want to be post modern we should start a revolition no names ending in 'ia' or double barrelled with Mae on the end.

OP posts:

What's wrong with Joanne/a?

Chubfuddler · 15/07/2012 21:08

Most of these names are the names of girls I went to school with, including my own. I'm 33.

All good solid conventional names, but they weren't in the 1970s when some of them first became popular. they were quite exotic.

And I love the name Linda. I think it's lovely.

I think it tends to go in 60 year cycles, doesn't it? So you don't call your kid nams of teh girls you went to school with, or your mum/aunties. Your grandparents' names start to seem unusual.

darthsillius · 15/07/2012 21:03

I also know a 3 year old Laura

darthsillius · 15/07/2012 21:02

My DDs are teenagers and pre-teen now and we named them on the first crest of the wave of the current popular names. All three girl's names were only just in the top 80 when they were born - now 15 years later 2 are in the top five.

I think I should have gone for Carol, Julie and Linda.

Janet
Dorothy
Ermintrude
Gertrude
Helen
Susan
Pamela

Ie good, solid English names!
