It's such a beautiful, underused name which both sounds and looks lovely in my opinion Smile however there is one problem.....are you willing and Abel jokes etc. what do you think???? I really love it but just want to get a feel for what the general public think........Tanx in advance.

im not a fan of this one :( id be thinking of the abel security company i see everywhere

A watery name? Confused It's a fabulous, strong, manly name - think of Abraham Lincoln! And it means 'father of multitudes' - how much more virile could a boy's name be?!

I can see that Abel might result in "Are you able?" jokes, but not Abraham. I think you should work on DH and convince him that the world needs more Abrahams!

DottieRose · 17/07/2012 19:03

Dh said no as he thinks it's a watery name Confused and the are you able jokes!!!

The world's first murder victim, according to the Bible. Try as I might, I could not get over that connotation personally. I adore Abraham though - now that's a fabulous name. Why did your hubby say no to it?

BackforGood · 16/07/2012 23:56

The fact it sounds like 'able' is what puts me off, tbh. I think you'd get tired of people trying to make feeble jokes if it were your name.

Mind, I've heard worse...... much worse Grin

I love it, was on my lists.. Has a lovely sound to it, and as others have said, Abe is a cool nn. Plus has the known, but not popular factor if that bothers you..

Are you a Sons of Anarchy tv series fan? Baby boy in that is called Abel.

Tigertots · 16/07/2012 18:13

I don't like it nearly as much as Jacob.

LuellaLovesLavender · 16/07/2012 09:49

Stunning name!

DottieRose · 15/07/2012 21:58

Yeeeaaaaah glad I'm getting some positive reactions to the name, I can show the dh later! As for the Abel and Cole veg boxes I'm in Ireland and as far as I know they don't exist here! And the Cain and Abel story is not an issue for me as Abel was the good brother!

Ditto fenouille

DottieRose · 15/07/2012 21:41

Youremindmeofthebabe I was also considering Abraham but the hubby said no way.....I also have an Eli! We obviously have great taste Wink

I love the name, and the only Abel I've met in rl was very cool, so it's a yes from me!

Youremindmeofthebabe · 15/07/2012 20:38

I had Abraham on my list (Abe)- it's almost Abel! I rather like it. But then, I do have an Eli, which isn't to everyones taste.

OneLieIn · 15/07/2012 20:37

And willing and reporting for action

Or Cain

There are some good rhymes also

ThePigOnTheWall · 15/07/2012 20:35

Did Cain kill Abel or did Abel kill Cain?

Either way, that's not a positive thing to spring to mind is it?

MrsTrellisOfSouthWales · 15/07/2012 20:32

You'd have to give him a teddy bear or brother called Cole Smile

Shinyshoes1 · 15/07/2012 20:15

love it !

TheTeardropExplodes · 15/07/2012 20:10

I like it.

CakeBump · 15/07/2012 20:05

The bible story would put me off - he was murdered by his brother in a jealous rage...

RillaBlythe · 15/07/2012 20:05

My mum's middle name, my dad calls her it sometimes. Cute as a nickname in an odd way.

VolAuVent · 15/07/2012 19:59

I like it.

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 15/07/2012 19:44

No. Way to much joking potential ...

BumgrapesofWrath · 15/07/2012 19:32

Love it!
