Too old-fashioned?

Feeling really upset... wanted to call my baby Penny if it's a girl, after my favourite nan who passed away right before I met my hubby. She was an amazing woman who raised me for the first five years of my life, and she meant the world to me. I love the name, especially on a cute little girl, but when I mentioned potential names a while back (before I was preggers) to my friends, more than one of them pulled a face and said that they hoped for the baby's sake I went with one of the other options...

What do you think? Should I just go with my gut feeling that I love the name Penny, or should I listen to my friends and think of some more options? Is it really too old-fashioned to be given to a little baby?

Love Penelope and Penny as a nn

I think you should go with it. It's not my favourite name, but it's not in the tiniest bit weird, too old- fashioned, whatever. And you have a very compelling reason to use it, which is lovely (I would call the daughter I now won't have Constance, after my Nan).

BTW, never tell people apart from us, your name choices Wink

Penny is lovely go for it. Makes it even lovelier when it is named after someone you loved.

Penny is lovely. Would she be Penelope? I know a child Penny & she is very sweet. Have you seen 'The big bang theory'? The main girl is called Penny.

This is where the first rule of baby naming comes into play

Rule 1 of Baby Naming - NEVER discuss baby names with ANYONE except your OH before you deliver

Rule 2 of Baby Naming - choose a name your and your DH want and love

Rule 3 of Baby Naming - see rule 1.

It's a sweet name and really means something to you so don't listen to your friends.

Will it be Penelope and Penny for short?

The only Penny that I know is 16, so I see no problem with it! Go for it, you love it, it's a lovely name and, most importantly, you sound like you'd regret it if you didn't use it.
