I am 25 weeks pregnant at the moment and starting to think a bit more about names. We do not know if we are having a boy or girl. Finding boys names a lot easier than girls names. Really liking the nn 'Millie' and more recently the nn 'Emmy'. Would like a more formal given name to take these nicknames from.
I have thought about possible names / spellings. Which do you prefer?

Emelia
Emilia
Emelie
Emily
Emmeline

congratulations, EfffyGrin Millicent is indeed a fabulous name. Grin

mum47 · 13/07/2012 16:31

Millicent is a fabulous name - love it!! And to boot you get the short-form of Millie - what's not to like!

efffy · 13/07/2012 16:28

My brand new snugly 4 day old dd is Millicent - Millie Smile

VerityBrulee · 13/07/2012 16:15

I like Camilla nn Millie. Camilla Fox is a great nameSmile

user12785 · 13/07/2012 16:11

I like the name, but FYI there are 5 Millys in ds' reception class! And 2 Lillys.

SpottySlippers · 13/07/2012 16:04

I love Emilia, but I am biased! DD1 is Emilia, shortenend to Millie. Occasionally it is pronouced Emelia, incorrect spelling hasn't been a problem.

LuellaLovesLavender · 13/07/2012 16:00

Emmeline is gorge!

hypoxia · 13/07/2012 15:44

I know three dogs and one cat called Millie :D

Seriously though, Fox is an uber-cool surname, I think a longer first name would sound great with it. Charlotte Fox. Camilla Fox. Miranda Fox. Something like that.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 13/07/2012 09:40

I think millie or Milly is lovely on its own as well unless you want one of the others...

milliemoomummy · 12/07/2012 22:48

I have a Millie who is just called Millie on her birth certificate. Middle Name grace. Love the name and suits her so well Smile x

AnnaNimitty · 12/07/2012 22:47

Millie is short for Millicent.

Grannylipstick · 12/07/2012 22:21

I have a Millie who will be 20 this month. Baptised Millie

Peppapigsarse · 12/07/2012 21:32

My dd2 is Amelia but nickname is Millie/milliemoo/millievanmillie....

And trouble with a capital T!!!

swooosh · 12/07/2012 21:25

I know a Mildred whos a Millie...not quite a popular name!

CrapBag · 12/07/2012 21:19

Amelia Rose was a choice for our DD. Amelia was always our girls name of choice then we let DS pick her middle name. Rose was one of the choices but he picked Grace.

If I ever have another DD then Rose will be her middle name instead.

OP I think you should just go for Millie if you are planning on shortening it anyway. I wouldn worry about when she is an adult. I have heard far worse names that people have called their children with no regards for them as an adult (Pebble for one example). Hmm

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 12/07/2012 21:17

Emilia is my favourite and I would just use it if ifs yours, she's not mightily famous like. Tom cruise for eg.

VolAuVent · 12/07/2012 21:11

I think the surname Fox does rule out some of those names as would be too similar to (or the same as!) Emilia Fox.

Emily Fox sounds nice.

Surprised no-one has mentioned Millicent as that's the most obvious long version for Millie.

Annabel Fox (Annie)
Matilda Fox (might get away with Millie as nickname?)
Melissa Fox (ditto)

Raahh · 12/07/2012 21:11

My Millie is a Millicent, Millie is a fab nameGrin

If your surname is Fox, I think Emilia is well known enough for that to be an issue, maybe go for Amelia instead. Or Emmeline, if you prefer Emmy as a nn (which i also considered for DD2- but figured 2 suffragette names might be overkill!)

youarekidding · 12/07/2012 21:06

I know an Amelia who's Millie.

I know an Emmy who is an Emmy and an Emmy whose an Emily.

I know an Emmaline who has never been shortened.

I like Amelie which maybe could be Millie?

I do love the name Millie - also I think Amelia Rose is a beautiful name ginger.

gingerbubs · 12/07/2012 21:02

I have an Amelia who is known as Millie. She's 15 months and just awesome :-). Amelia Rose is her Sunday name.

rollingfog143 · 12/07/2012 20:59

Matilda.

GaryTankCommander · 12/07/2012 20:54

Aaah so your surname is Fox? Emilia Fox isn't that famous I suppose, it's not like naming your child Benedict if your surname was Cumberbatch.

I still like Emilia, but with a surname of Fox, would possibly go with Emily instead (bit boring though IMO).

AFox · 12/07/2012 20:51

I do like Millie as a name in it's own right, but wonder if it would suit a grown up as well as a little girl.

Also 25 wks pregnant and considering Millie as name! I was just thinking Millie though, never considered using as a nn for another name. I think Emilia is lovely but I do reckon everyone will just assume its Amelia, Emmeline is nice too.

LST · 12/07/2012 20:45

I know an Ameliea. Her nn is Millie.
