What do you lot think of my girls name list

Stinkyminkymoo · 11/07/2012 09:21

I am 35+4 and we don't know what we are having which whilst exciting has made choosing a name pretty tricky. We've had no problems with a boys name but are struggling with a girls name.

Bit of cultural background, both my DH & I have quite a mix heritage; Scandinavian, German, Welsh, Irish & English.

What do you think of my not very extensive full list? :)
Mila
Edda
Inge
Klara
Romilly
Amalia
Astrid

Any thoughts on any others?

Klara is ok, better spelled Clara.

Not keen on the rest, sorry.

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/07/2012 23:06

Edda and Romilly

skippy84 · 12/07/2012 23:05

I like Mila and also Klara but also prefer it with a C.
Agree with the mInge thing, first thing that popped into my head Blush

CarriMarie · 12/07/2012 23:03

Romilly Astrid is lovely.

Clarella · 12/07/2012 19:29

I know a half Swedish baby called Ebba and my middle name is Scandinavian: Elsebeth, their version of Elizabeth. Never come across it in the UK at all. Can be shortened to ellabeth, ella, ellabett etc. All lovely imo!

onetwo3 · 12/07/2012 18:51

Clara with a C, the others are dismissible.

DottieRose · 12/07/2012 16:51

Mila, Romilly and Astrid are my faves!

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 12/07/2012 16:31

I LOVE Amelia and Astrid, don't care for the rest.

Stellan · 12/07/2012 16:28

Mila - OK.
Edda - not come across this before but think it sounds nice - very Scandinavian-sounding though so might want to give her a middle name that gives a nod to her other heritage.
Inge - don't think it works that well in the UK - Inga the minger? ('Minger' is defined by Urban Dictionary as 'a male or female who fell out of the ugly tree at birth and hit every branch on the way down'...)
Klara - I like the sound of this name but prefer the way Clara looks when written.
Romilly - like but prefer Romola.
Amalia - like.
Astrid - like.

PrincessOfChina · 12/07/2012 16:16

We have a Romilly. Other names we considered were Seren, Aurelia and Edith.

I like Mila and Astrid from your list.

manicinsomniac · 12/07/2012 16:14

If you were worried about the minge thing, couldn't you spell it 'Inga'? I'm sure that's how I've seen it (though admittedly, I think that was in the Chalet School and therefore of dubious accuracy!)

Mila - No so keen on the 'meel' sound in names.
Edda - Lovely.
Inge - Lovely.
Klara - Lovely.
Romilly - not overly keen
Amalia - Pretty
Astrid - Lovely.

I think I'd go for Inde/Inga or Klara

What about Hedda? Or Karin? (I don't know many Scandinavian names!)

kickingKcurlyC · 11/07/2012 16:26

I liked Astrid and Inge best. But the minge thing has put me off! I like Birgitta too. :)

VolAuVent · 11/07/2012 16:15

Birgitta is very pretty, though a bit tricky for us Brits to pronounce in that nice soft scandinavian way!

amck5700 · 11/07/2012 16:09

Amaris? - it's a wee bit softer than some of your other options but my favourite of those would be Mila

Stinkyminkymoo · 11/07/2012 16:00

I have my grandmothers middle name and would love to use my mothers but she hates it (she has a nn that has been used since she was little) I'll throw that in the mix too

Birgitta

I like, possibly a a middle name, but thoughts?

Argh this is so hard!!

I really love Romilly, Klara and Amalia.
Mila is cute, but seems like a nickname for something to me, the miracle idea is lovely, though.
Astrid seems too much like a bully's dream for me. That first syllable could cause her trouble.
Edda and Inge are not to my taste.

ohchristFENTON · 11/07/2012 11:59

Love: Mila & Astrid
Like: Klara & Romilly
Dislike: Inge, Edda and Amalia

Stinkyminkymoo · 11/07/2012 11:53

Ooh twonker, I didn't know that, how lovely!

I'm not at all obsessed with name popularity, I would like something that touches on either mine or DH's heritage not that there's much Welsh in there but it's ok as he's got Scando too

SoupDragon · 11/07/2012 11:39

Like: Mila Astrid
OK: Klara Romilly Amalia
Dislike: Inge Edda

littlemissbroody26 · 11/07/2012 11:38

I love the name Astrid :) its going to be our baby's middle name as it's oh grandma's name.

Klara is very pretty but if you will be teaching your child a scandinavian language it means "finished" i teach a girl called klara and she hates it.. but if she will only speak english it wont be an issue.

I live in Sweden so i can offer some more scandinavian name options if you like (alltho i think you have a lovely set to choose from)

Thea (said tia)
Saga (story)
Estrid
Alva (from nature Elf/fairy)
maja
elsa
Moa
Alma
Tuva
Liv (said leave)
Svea (means swedish so maybe not)
Frida
Greta

Best of luck with the birth :)

twonker · 11/07/2012 11:16

Mila is short for milagros in Spanish, meaning miracles, which is a lovely meaning.
Alternative to romilly; romola.

tara0202 · 11/07/2012 11:09

I like Inge and mila :)

GnocchiNineDoors · 11/07/2012 11:06

Mila and Astrid are my favourites.

Mrsloverlovershabba · 11/07/2012 11:04

That's a nice collection of names! I think Romilly and Astrid are my favourites.

AnnaNimitty · 11/07/2012 11:00

Why does it matter if 3 Romillys were born this year?

why the obsession with having a unique name? a bit 'try hard' or what
