so, dh and I are still arguing discussing names.

it wasn't this hard for the other 3, so no idea why we are struggling this time Confused

anyway, first boy (obviously we find girls easier to name!), and we are finding it hard.

like names like Edward (can't use because of alliteration with surname), Dominic (don't like the shortenings, and also alliteration with surname).

so, thus far our short list is:

Caspar (or maybe Caspian - we are torn)
Arthur
Phillip

dh likes Octavian Hmm but I am putting my foot down on that one!

oh, fgs. am really going round in circles with this one

I like all three names but I would probably go for Arthur because I love the nn Artie.
Philip is a very nice name too but I am not keen on the nn "Pip" (sounds like the French slang for bj..)
Caspar is DH's name and he really is having a hard time to remain CaspAr and not CaspEr (the friendly ghost) in the US.

Fwiw, DH's siblings are: Theodore, Archibald, Peregrine, Allegra and Viola

Oh and I love your DDs names!

amck5700 · 14/07/2012 10:20

Ahh, that one passed me by :)

Natnat29 · 14/07/2012 09:21

Love Arthur would have been one of my top choices but my OH doesn't like old fashioned names- love Albert too, good luck choosing :)

LauraPalmer · 14/07/2012 09:18

amcks - it would be a bit odd to name a brother and sister after characters whose relationship is famously marked by sexual tension and sparring...

LauraPalmer · 14/07/2012 09:16

Ah, I misread your post, sorry! Smile

VolAuVent · 14/07/2012 07:34

Yes, that's what my post meant - was answering amck5700's question about why it isn't a good idea.

LauraPalmer · 14/07/2012 06:04

I suggested that the Beatrice/Benedict shouldn't be done precisely because of the literary reference.

Perhaps if there wasn't already a third child in the mix with a non-Much-Ado name it might be different.

Staverton · 14/07/2012 01:03

Louis
Barnaby - barney
Guy
Alexander
Alec
Felix
Wilfred (wilf)
Sebastian

VolAuVent · 14/07/2012 00:48

why can't you have a Beatrice and a Benedict??

Shakespeare characters / opera by Berlioz

amck5700 · 14/07/2012 00:40

Errrmm - why can't you have a Beatrice and a Benedict??

LauraPalmer · 13/07/2012 06:29

Sorry but you can't have a Beatrice and then add a Benedict (however lovely that name is!)

Arthur sounds nice with your girls' names.

YodasMummy · 12/07/2012 14:45

I like Philip, I think its tasteful, solid and underused. It's of the same ilk as James, Edward and Daniel, which are gorgeous but often shunned in favour of more trendy names.
Philip goes well with your DDs names too :-)

Emmeric · 12/07/2012 13:50

Arthur, then Casper. Or Jasper.
Or Henry.
They go well with your other children's names.

LaGuerta · 12/07/2012 13:31

No-one has liked Philip yet, but I think that fits with your other children's names really well. Pip as a nn is great for a little boy.

I like Arthur too, but Caspar is too out there compared to your other DC's names for my taste.

Other thoughts:
Julian
Rupert
Sebastian

Congratulations BTW on the imminent arrival of your 4th DC.

BlueChampagne · 12/07/2012 13:20

Ah - not quite good enough though - but back for another go:

Julius/Julian
Marius
Leo
Alexander

AnotherLoad · 12/07/2012 13:13

what about Teddy - short for edward?

caspar is nice :)

Tiago · 12/07/2012 13:07

I love Caspar adn think it wouldbe fine. I also like the suggestion of Benedict.

PolkaDotMoon · 11/07/2012 20:54

Arthur then Caspian from your list and in that order
Or
Jasper
Evan
Austin
Theodore
Henry

How lovely for the 3 girls to have a little brother to pamper

Dinosaurumpus · 11/07/2012 17:09

Blue - you are good at this Smile

I like Toby, but alas! it's a no from dh

I like Corin too, but have an Uncle Colin - too confusing!

OP posts:
BlueChampagne · 11/07/2012 16:31

Your girls' names sound rather Shakespearean to me. OK, how about:

Anthony
Corin
Toby

3isthemagicnumber · 11/07/2012 14:50

Lucian
Clement
Miles
Jonah
Joleyn
Thomas

amck5700 · 11/07/2012 14:30

Benjamin
Dorian
Henry
Jonathan
Jasper

Dinosaurumpus · 11/07/2012 13:37

Grin re: Roman Emperors

Octavian is a complete non-starter as far as I am concerned (although do like the shortening Tavian Confused)

The C.S. Lewis thing is what bothers me re: Caspian. None of the others have 'made up' names (or are named after places). I do like it though. BUt it's a bit fanciful (due to origins)

Oscar is the dog's name, so can't use that!

OP posts:
juneau · 11/07/2012 13:30

I think Caspar is great. Or what about Oscar? It's quite popular, but I only know two (one is about 10, the other, two).

Constantine or Octavian were both Roman emperors - do you have high hopes for this child? Grin

And Caspian is Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis. I'm guessing he'd get called Prince (although maybe kids these days don't read those books?)

DottieRose · 11/07/2012 13:23

I think Caspar or Arthur would fit beautifully with your other children's names!! And IMO Caspar is not too out there and is a name I have been considering myself!
