My dc went to pre-school with a family on that list. Mad as a box of frogs, but lovely with it!

Well yes, one of those belgian kings was a murderous racist. It would be like calling a kid Adolf.

It is just a hideous Victoriam sounding name in my eyes, apart from that.

MagdalenaAlec · 10/07/2012 17:05

Barnabas is my goldfish :o

Please enlighten me: why has Leopold caused a scandal? It is a strong, well-established continental name (Several kings of Belgium, writers, painters...etc) imo ..

squoosh · 10/07/2012 17:02

I'm sure some guys call it snake charming! So 'having a wank' wouldn't have been too far off.

ShirleyKnot · 10/07/2012 16:59

It's the way the audience are dying, the male contestant is dying, Roy Walker is DYING and the female contestant is all Confused uh wha?

derekthehamster · 10/07/2012 16:55

My cheeks hurt from watching that clip Grin

squoosh · 10/07/2012 16:48

Oh I loved the wanking Mr Chips. That innocent minded girl didn't have a clue!

Ooh, I KNOW one of those families, no idea they'd shoved their kids name in the Telegraph though.

PLUM though, sweet lord jesus. It's not even a nice word to say, and it means testicle. What is wrong with people? "A daughter, Sophia-Penelope Knobend Georgiana"

tirty tree treads

I watched about 8 episodes of Catchprase back to back last year when housebound - it was terrific. Just the hairstyles alone.

It's good , but it's not right

GetOrfMoiiLand · 10/07/2012 16:07

say what you see

Did she say it in a Roy Walker from Catchphrase way? Grin

miaowmix · 10/07/2012 15:50

squoosh more of the sandpit persuasion, sadly.
I can see it would be a dashing kind of name for the right type...

WithACherryOnTop · 10/07/2012 15:40

I rather like Leopold.Blush

Elmo is ghastly though.

ShirleyKnot · 10/07/2012 15:34

Thar's kind of terrible in a way isn't it? I used to work in a Japanese firm and for the first week I was terrified to call anyone by their name in case I mispronounced it, until a lovely person told me that their names are spelled phonetically ands just "Say what you see"

BellaOfTheBalls · 10/07/2012 15:28

I did a linguistics module at university with a lot of a Chinese/Taiwanese/Korean students. People in the class included:
Judy
Cherry
June
Jack
Helen

There was also the most beautiful girl, I mean really really stunning who had chosen Fanny. I could never look her in the eye I was 18 and very judgemental

usualsuspect · 10/07/2012 15:21

Lol @ Irene

GetOrfMoiiLand · 10/07/2012 15:16

I used to have to deal with Taiwanese people a lot in my last job, apparently they all elect western sounding names when they are around 13, and they keep that for corresponding with westerners.

I dealt with an Irene, a Wesley, a Roseanne and a Frankley.

BellaOfTheBalls · 10/07/2012 15:16

MarysBeard I am Grin at Christabel Cross.

BellaOfTheBalls · 10/07/2012 15:15

My name is now very in vogue among Telegraph readers. In the early eighties it most definitely wasn't & I hated it so much I used to tell people my name was Joanne. It was the most insipid normal name my four year old brain could come up with.

Anyone else see Inigo and immediately think "you killed my father. Prepare to die" Grin

squoosh · 10/07/2012 15:12

Have they stuck with Tracey and Sharon? I know a Chinese guy who changed his name to Rowan upon arriving in the UK as Mr Bean was his favourite tv programme!

As good a reason as any.
