Alice- suddenly popular?

Am now 40 +1 weeks with DC3, and thank goodness, as still have not decided name.

We have always liked Alice, but have noticed a few baby name threads saying it is very trendy at the moment. DC1 and 2 are 8 and 6, and in their age group we don't know any Alices at all - but for all I know, baby groups may be bursting at the seams with Alices! :)

(As I've posted before, I'm a little crazy on this topic as we named DD1 Isla when it was nowhere in top 100, and now it's depressingly popular.)

So...what do you think? Is your area overwhelmed by Alices under-2?

Alice is a beautiful choice, I had three boys but every time girl was going to be Alice India. I dont know any Alices at all in school/playgroup/friends. etc. If thats what you want go for it.

Jackie432 · 13/07/2012 08:06

I don't know any Alices, it's a lovely name!

charlottery · 09/07/2012 22:27

I have a 4 year old Alice. I know its relatively popular, but I think its a good solid but pretty name - go for it!

Tigertots · 09/07/2012 21:15

I've noticed that the name Alison = much more common than Alice, for chicks of my own age-group (I'm 38). I think the reverse may be true amongst the youngsters of today?

Personally, I've always preferred Alice to Alison. Alice makes me think of 2 pretty blondes, from Wonderland and Dibley.

I have an Alice. There is another Alice at her preschool who also has same first letter of surname. A bit annoying but they aren't the same school year. Don't know any others!

Ah, thanks everyone. Have name, now just need baby!

I don't know any children named Alice. If I'd had a girl I'd have called her Alice too Smile

berryfreeze · 09/07/2012 18:09

eastendywendy · 09/07/2012 18:03

What about ailish? Gaelic for alice.

Alice is lovely though and I don't know any.

Touffe · 09/07/2012 17:58

I know lots of 16/17 yo Alices, but only one under 10.

NarkedRaspberry · 09/07/2012 17:54

in 2007 it was 43rd
In 2008 it was 46th
In 2010 it was 43rd again

TheDetective · 09/07/2012 17:51

I think you will be okay. It is popular, but it won't be as common as say maisie/millie/lily, or so it seems, as every other child has one of those names!

I know one Alice, she is 4. I'm a midwife, and can't say I have seen more than one or two this year.

Alice was on my name list for this baby, but its a DS! So.....!

Vagaceratops · 09/07/2012 17:50

We go to gym class, playgroup, toddler swimming and ballet with DD.

There is one Alice in her ballet school, and she is 7.

PastaLadyHasNameChangedForThis · 09/07/2012 17:41

Mine is the only Alice I know and even that is just her middle name.

Just go for it

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 09/07/2012 17:38

I know one Alice age 4.5

Minty82 · 09/07/2012 17:35

It's my sister's name (mid-20s), and she had seven in her year at school! Only know of one little one at the moment. Think it's always popular rather than 'suddenly' - certainly not faddy.

StealthPolarBear · 09/07/2012 16:24

My DD is Alice, she is nearly 3. And it has the added benefit that when she's being a monster I can call her the Alligator.

CrazyRandomHappenstance · 09/07/2012 16:23

it's my dd2's middle name, don't know anyone who has it as a first name

FootballFriendSays · 09/07/2012 16:08

I worked on a labour ward for 4 months this Spring and don't remember any girls called Alice. South Coast. It's a lovely name and would go with Isla, v feminine.

Longdistance · 09/07/2012 16:06

My dd has just turned 1, she's an Alice Grin

bruffin · 09/07/2012 16:05

I know of a few Alices in their mid teens.

CowgirlintheSand · 09/07/2012 16:02

According to the stats it's actually gone down in popularity lately. Personally I know a few older girls and women called Alice but no young children at all.

Although I did start thinking about it as a name for my (still pregnant with) DD today... :)

HenriettaChicken · 09/07/2012 15:51

I know one, born last month

VolAuVent · 09/07/2012 15:43

riksti · 09/07/2012 15:21
