I don't want to say my eldest daughters full name, because I am paranoid about being anonymous...but basically her nickname could be
ellie
ella
elle

I like all of them but I prefer elle as I think its a little less popular. However other children have already called her ellie. Should i correct them. Can you enforce one nickname over another?
which name is the most popular...do you know the most of?

I know quite a few Ellies, I also used to have a cat called Ellie. I think you can choose your childs nickname until they start school or start playing outside on their own, then you've no choice Wink

Oooh yes, Nell is good

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 05/07/2012 16:19

Ellie is pretty common, as are Ella, Ellis

I like Elle. Classy

I know an infant school teacher who says that Ellie and Ella are very common in her school. What about Nell? it sounds quite quite cool!

We always intended our dd's nickname would be Ellie. She however has decided it is going to be Nellie. Occasionally we csll her Elle because of Legally Blonde

I know one Ellie (Elianna), and 3 Ella's, no Elle's. I think they're all nice but wouldn't want my kid being nn'd Ella because its soooooo overly popular where i live (Canada). The others I'd be fine with. If it really bothers you then nip it in the bud and correct everyone. I had to have a talk with my siblings about the horrendous nn's they were calling my DS and DD because it really really bothered me and they've stopped.

Hiya, my eldest girl must have a similar name to your DD as we call her by one of the NNs you listed (not Ellie).

We know lots of Ellie's of many ages and whilst it is a gorgeous name, I didn't want my DD NNed Ellie as it is so popular. Also, Ellie rhymes with our surname.

I would - and do - correct others if they call her Ellie. I wouldn't, though, be irritated/offended if friends NNed her Ellie. It's a soft name, one that I can see children using, so I'd take it as a compliment.

I know 2 Ella's and one Elle.

FWIW, all of the Ellie's who I have met have been lovely people. I have very positive associations with the name :)
