Really like the idea of Kitty if we have a girl -am I setting her up for a school life of teasing if I do?

mumtoacub · 07/07/2012 18:15

Spooky... was thinking today that if I ever have a girl would love to call her Kitty. Love, love, love it!!! Not sure about Katherine is there any other name it could be shortened from?

marshmallowpies · 07/07/2012 17:58

Love both the long name and nickname...but it's always Katharine with a k in our house, not a C! (my mum is Katharine).

mathanxiety · 07/07/2012 17:55

I think it's fab. I knew one who was a wonderful, feisty, old-schoolish lady -- she had been a war bride and moved to the US but had never lost her native British (Liverpool) forthrightness, or her lovely charm either. She was quite old when I first met her but she was a force to be reckoned with.

kickingKcurlyC · 07/07/2012 17:35

I like Kitty, but I only like Catherine, dislike Katherine. Dunno why.

exoticfruits · 07/07/2012 16:52

Kate is far nicer.

exoticfruits · 07/07/2012 16:52

I love Katherine but don't like Kitty(cat).

mrsbugsywugsy · 07/07/2012 16:41

I love it as a NN, especially for Kathleen (I much prefer this to Katherine)

lottiegb · 05/07/2012 22:26

I love it and think it's rather cool.

lou4791 · 05/07/2012 21:14

Love both names.

AnathemaDevice · 05/07/2012 18:32

I love it, but I'm biased as I have a Kitty (Kathleen on BC).

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 05/07/2012 15:53

she'd be teased

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 05/07/2012 15:53

I don't think she's be teased, but I think it's too girly and young for my taste.

Katherine is a lovely name but (if it matters to you), I predict it becoming a very common name

birdofthenorth · 05/07/2012 15:35

I love it. Friend beat me too it but still considering it!

squoosh · 05/07/2012 15:34

I like Kitty.

I picture a Victorian girl/woman with brown curly hair and a pink bonnet . . . . or my Great Aunt Kitty who ran her own pub till she was 87.

Kit is also lovely.

FiveRingsForDinner · 05/07/2012 15:30

Sweet - so long as christened Catherine/ katherine .

I once got flamed in RL over this by someone who had named their baby Kitty-not-Katherine because...... Their own name was Katherine!

StellaNova · 05/07/2012 15:27

I love Kitty as a nickname but prefer Katharine to Katherine. Just a matter of taste though.

MammaTonic · 05/07/2012 14:51

Our neighbour's daughter is Charlotte but she is always introduced and known as Lottie.

I wrote a birthday card for and addressed it to 'Miss L. Surname'. It was only a few days later when I realised it should have been 'Miss C. Surname'! Such is the power of NNs, I suppose!

HandMadeTail · 04/07/2012 22:50

Lovely, especially if used as a nickname.

Incidentally, schools often ask for a preferred name, so she could be Kitty at school (ie you can choose her nickname.) I know a Charlotte who is always known as Lottie, by her parents' choice.

darkfever · 04/07/2012 22:45

I like it as a nickname for Katherine. Makes me think of Shadowcat from the X-Men.

IHeartKingThistle · 04/07/2012 22:38

Love it. I would use Katherine to give her some options as she gets older though.

MacMac123 · 04/07/2012 22:35

I think it's nice and Kit when she's older is v.cool
Don't bother with the Katherine. Its not necessary. And personally find the name a bit boring. If you'd just be doing it to be pc/conventional then go with the quirkier choice.

mewkins · 04/07/2012 22:32

Yes Kitty is good and a nice nickname for Katherine

Nonio · 04/07/2012 21:59

I love the name Kitty *
