How ridiculous to not like a letter

I immensely dislike the name Jodie for a girl. In fact, I would say I hate it. I've known a couple of Jodies who were utter bitches and I think that this may have influenced my disdain for the name.

Not keen on 'old lady' names, either - Edith, Gretchen, Greta, Gertie, Doris. I don't like Lacey or Keira.

For boys, I particularly don't like Kevin. Names like Walter, Norman, Derek aren't good. I don't know how you'd look at a beautiful baby boy and think "he's DEFINITELY a Norbert!"

Hyphenated names seem to be a bit 'marmite' on MN. FWIW, I like them, just so long as they don't sound chavvy i.e Lacey-Mai, Heidi-Rose, Amber-Lee.

And, my real name is on here: not mentioned much, but it's there! I'm not bothered though, as I really like my name :)

I don't like ANY names beginning with a K (C is ok though )

I actually like the double barrelled first names as long as they are real names (ie not Lacie-Mae).

Love Mary-Jane but that has unfortunate connotations, and Mary-Kate I think is rather sweet, but ruined by being associated with Mary-Kate Olesen.

Always think double-barrelled boys names look so cool in French - Jean-Claude, Pierre-Francois etc...the possibilities are endless. Wish it worked as well with English boys names!

I hate a clutch of single-syllable names: Jade, Dean, Carl, Wayne. Also hate Lorraine because of the nasty girl at school called that.

Now DS and DB's name are on here too. Maybe our family has the horrible name gene :)

tourdefrance like I said my dislike of Freya was irrational, particular as I deliberately chose a less popular name for DD as I hated being 1 of 3 girls in my class with the same name. Its just because she really really wants all that named crap stuff so we have to have the same conversation EVERY time we see any. I am just taking out my frustration on all the poor innocent little Freyas (that we never meet) because of it.

WithACherryOnTop everyone who meets my Dylan says he is a very nice. He just saves all of his horribleness for me at home. :o

I hate mn names too. And old people names, Martha/Mabel/Stanley/ Fred/Florence etc
That said my DDs name comes up all the time in these types of conversations and I don't get insulted. Hope anyone who's DC I just named doesn't either.
World would be extremely boring and confusing if we were all only called 4 names!

Isobel, Isabel, Isobelle, Isabella, Izzy. Etc, etc.

I wince whenever yet another acquaintance uses it for their DD. It's so tired and boring.

Someone up-thread so why call your boy John and I feel the same about Isabel at the moment.

Me too with the "MN names". Many of them come across as pretentious and try-hard and they just don't really appeal. I haven't met anyone around here with a typical MN name.

Amelie - sets my teeth on edge. Pretentious.

Jennifer - sounds prissy. Hated it since I was at school with a Jenny who was horrible.
