So what's the betting some of these names will start to become mainstream?
I reckon Jaime, Tyrion and Eddard are all very serviceable...

Not sure about Hodor for a child? Could definitely see it suiting some kind of hound (viszla, basset, bloodhound, dachsund) looking down its long nose in a lugrubious fasion....

There are a fair few daenerys around these days according to a tv show I saw.
Jamie is already mainstream in the us, but it is a girl's name.
I could see arya and Sansa becoming popular. It's because they're similar to but not the same as already popular names.

Yay, I like Tyrion too! I'm very lucky, as a siamese cat breeder I know I will get to use some of these!

Sadly, at 43, 3 mcs and failed ivf, it is, unlikely I will get to use them for anything else... but fingers crossed!

Saoirse isn't a controversial name in Ireland at all anymore. It's long lost any political connotations, in the Republic at least.

Think hippyish freedom rather than freedom from oppression.

DP and I teetered on the brink of calling DD Khaleesi, I think he'd have gone for it, but I wasn't sure if it would be cool and exotic or cheesy and naff.

I like Arya pronounced like Aria, but not the Arr-ya pronunciation.

Quite a few 'real' or similar names, e.g. Catelyn, Lysa, Lyanna, Arianne, Elia, Meera. I actually think Shae is quite nice but again the character connotations are maybe problematic...

Circe was an enchantress from the Iliad IIRC - so not a new name.

But I know a grown-up Eowyn, named after the character from Lord of the Rings; I won't be at all surprised if there's a rash of Danaerys over the next few years.

Also wasn't the name Wendy a made-up one from Peter Pan, that's become quite common since then?

Also, in the TV show, Arya gets called both Arr-ya and Ari-ah. I'd always pronounce it Ari-ah. No idea which one is right.

I know someone whose brother-in-law wanted to call his daughter Khaleesi! I haven't heard if he actually did.

I already know/know of quite a few Jaimes - Jaime Winston being one.

George Martin's website has picture of lots of dc named from his characters, very surprising how many Daenerys' there are...don't know if I would dare subject child to have to spell be that brave! Think it's obvious from my username which I use...

I think Cersei is a lovely name but the character is a mad bitch so it puts me off somewhat.

I've already spotted them on some shortlists. I like Cersei, but prefer similar Cerce.
Some of the name spellings are a bit Hmm but I think that's quite fitting for the period.

There was an interview with George R R Martin on tv and he said he gets people at his book signings with baby daughters called Daenerys quite a lot, so it could well become a popular name.
