Just thought Id start a thread to see any names which might have a special meaning? My partner and I concieved our DS in Philadelphia, America, and we'd gone over there to watch the basket ball team play. Partners fav player is called Allen Iverson, unfortunately we didn't get to see him play, but once we found out I was pregnant, we decided we wanted him/her to have part of their name to do where they were concieved, so we decided to have Iverson as his middle name! We think it has a really nice ring for his whole name, and its a special memory to us too :)

DD's name is an anagram of MIL's name. Her middle name is the name of the village where DH and I first lived together (it's also a proper girls name!).

When I was expecting DS, FIL was researching his family tree, and found that all the eldest sons of every generation had the same name; coincidentally it was a name I had always loved, so that's what we went with for first name. DS's middle name is the name of my uncle who was having cancer treatment when I was expecting him; he made a good recovery and did the race for the future on the day DS was born.

Mine and all my sibling's names have personal meanings to my parents. We don't do 'because we like it' in our family!

I think it is really nice how most of your children are named after family members :) Would love to name the next child I have after someone in our families, as I think its a lovely way to remember them :)

My ds is named after my brother who died when I was young. We were very very close and it is a fitting tribute from dh who chose it for that reason.

DD has an Irish version of both my Grandmother's names as her first name. Ds has a Danish family name as a middle name.

hermionestranger · 26/06/2012 12:12

Ds1's name means lion man and it's also the greek version of my paternal Granddads name, his middle name is DH's first name.

Ds2 has a festive name because he was born in December. His middle name is my dads middle name.

My DS's has one middle name for a family member, and Aubin as a second middle name, added last minute as it means white/blonde, as he came out with a huge mop of pure white hair.

His first name either means 'dove' or 'destroyer', which seems to fit!

DD is named after DH's grandmother, a woman who was ahead of her time, she raised great children including one with special needs who she was encouraged to have put into an instution, but, instead she fought for his education in mainstream.

She has the same surname as well, I like that it was fully used before so there was no need to test if it worked.

Both of my girls names have significant meanings.

DD1s name means 'everything, all, complete'; 'beautiful fairy maiden'; 'bright and shining', depending on what language the meaning is taken from. Her middle name means 'grace' which we interpret to mean being graced by her presence. She took almost a year to conceive, so I for one felt extra-blessed that she got here.

DD2 took 2 years and 6 Clomid cycles to conceive. That time was the most difficult and sad phase of my (and no doubt DHs) life. I honestly think I got severely depressed. I literally broke my heart with want for that little baby. When we finally conceived her, I wanted a name to reflect that. Her name means 'sorrows' but it also means 'strength'. I take that to mean that she is the joy that emerged from such sorrow. Her middle name means 'precious like a pearl', which she wholeheartedly is.

Both have names of much loved family members who have died. Some think its morbid but I love it.

This DC is going to have Harlyn as a middle name as Harlyn Bay is a very special place for us as a family :)

booksandchoc · 24/06/2012 20:45

My DD name is DH first name and my middle name put together and she has my maiden name as her middle name.

rachel1970 · 24/06/2012 20:43

My children have relatives' middle names.

My ds is called Alistair Glenn Morgan - a mouthful some might say! But I love his name. Alistair - because I have had that name for my first born son since as long as I remember. dh was a bit 'meh' about it but he saw how important it was to me and cam round to it. Glenn is my dads name. And Morgan is dh's lovely grandparents surname.
