Just thought Id start a thread to see any names which might have a special meaning? My partner and I concieved our DS in Philadelphia, America, and we'd gone over there to watch the basket ball team play. Partners fav player is called Allen Iverson, unfortunately we didn't get to see him play, but once we found out I was pregnant, we decided we wanted him/her to have part of their name to do where they were concieved, so we decided to have Iverson as his middle name! We think it has a really nice ring for his whole name, and its a special memory to us too :)

I'm gonna jump in, even though my names relate to as yet unborn DC's! (we are TTC at the moment!)
Originally we used to talk about Little H and Little A (our initials!) but then we started actually TTC when in Canada so they morphed into Louise (we were at Lake Louise for a while) and then Revy/Revelstoke (another place we stayed at)
Although they're not actually names that I would want in real life I have a wierd feeling they may end up as middle names, because its as if they have become 'personalities' with those names when we talk about our hoped for future family...

DD's name means rival. ideal for a second child :o

ZhenThereWereTwo · 30/06/2012 22:19

DD1's name is after the queen of Sheba, her middle name is Celtic to reflect her mixed heritage. Both her names refer to warrior queens.

DD2's name means 'the heavens are calm', chosen because her older sister seems to have taken on the attributes of her name originators and I hoped choosing a calm name would lead to a chilled out baby, so far it is working :) Her middle names are the first and middle name of my MIL who sadly passed away when I was pregnant with her.

perplexedpirate · 30/06/2012 22:18

DS is named after an extraordinary and lovely man I have been friends with for many years.
Since DS was born the name's got really popular. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

BlessedAssurance · 30/06/2012 22:07

My DD's middle name is my mother's middle name and it is beautiful. It means pleasant. Her first name is Italian and it means dedicated to God or beautiful. We honeymooned in Italy and loved the place so decided to give her an Italian name. The name suits her..Basically she is a pleasant beautiful little girl dedicated to God''.

jaffacakehips · 30/06/2012 10:34

My DD is named after my great grandmother who died a month before her 100 birthday. It's also happens to be my Grandmother middle name and my middle name.

My Grandmother was utterly delighted. On the plus side it's a name everyone in our family can pronounce and spell Grin

MrsHelsBels74 · 30/06/2012 08:22

My son is Frederick after my grandad who was my absolute hero when I was little.

We're still deciding for son number 2 but are heading towards Albert as that is my husband's grandfather.

Brugmansia · 30/06/2012 08:18

If DC is a boy his middle name will be dp's father's name. He passed away a few years ago. Strangely the current EDD is also dp's father's birthday.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 30/06/2012 04:56

My name means warrior in three different languages. Coincidence, mum says it was meant to due to my hard life. :)

My mum is the youngest of six sisters. When she was born, Pa declared he would never have a son and she would be named after him. (The feminine version.)

She was always the favourite Grin

wannabedomesticgoddess · 30/06/2012 04:50

My DDs first name is a female version of my grandads name. He died before I was even an itch but he means a lot to my dad so thought it was fitting.

Her middle name is Cliodhna (pronounced klaina) which in irish mythology was the queen of the banshees. That wasnt why I picked it, but let me tell you, she certainly lives up to it :o

twizzlestix · 28/06/2012 19:11

Our road to pregnancy wasnt easy so although my baby isn't born yet, I feel really strongly that our DC name should be special and meaningful reflecting how we feel about the news. Our favourites mean: happiness, joy and love.

wigglesrock · 27/06/2012 19:43

All my 3dds middle names are after family members.

pinkmagic1 · 27/06/2012 17:48

Ds is named after my bil who died not long aftet me and dh met.

Johnnydeppsnewmrs · 27/06/2012 17:42

DS has my grandfathers name as a middle name. He was the nicest person I have ever met, he always had time for his family and was the best grandad I could have hoped for.
DD's middle name turned out to be a family name on DH's side, but that is a co-incidence, as we had no idea until his Aunt told us she had the same name as a middle name. The Aunt sadly passed away when DD was 10 months old.

drivinmecrazy · 27/06/2012 16:22

DD2's middle name is Beck. My Dads family are all from Troutbeck in the lakes, and I have fond memories of sitting by a beck with them as a small child. Annoys me hugely when people think it must be short for Rebecca or correct it to become Becka/Becky.
Her first name is also a variant of the family name many generations have carried. There is only my 2 DDs and my niece of their generation, and as no males where born she is a variant of a mans name. Also was conceived while my Dad was dying so is great she carries the names into the next generation when my maiden name is due to die out with my niece

TodaysAGoodDay · 27/06/2012 16:19

My DS's name means 'Gift from God' and he really was. We were married 14 yrs before he came along.

Pochemuchka · 27/06/2012 16:16

DD's name means 'all' 'completely' and 'bright light'. Which is what she is to us - she means everything to us and is a beautiful ray of light in our sometimes difficult lives. She was also named after my dad's favourite singer

DS's name is mythological. The story is that his namesake was born into difficult circumstances, including being a little different, which he overcame immensely to become a teacher of those around him: noble, intelligent, civilised, kind, highly respected and peaceful. DS was born with a physical problem which will be overcome as he gets older, with intervention, and I am certain he will grow up to become an amazing man! because he's my son
:)

AhsokaTano -- if you do a bit of research, you may find there is some ancient saint associated with places you or your DH came from, perhaps some ancient church or temple or diocesan patron or holy well..

thunksheadontable · 27/06/2012 12:38

My first son is named after a Saint who travelled the world, visiting many places dh and I had visited together. The Saint is also the patron saint of my husband's hometown and reflects our status as emigrants from our own land.

My second son's middle name is an old family name that has died out over many generations, virtually unpronounceable now to many, but which links with our first son's name in meaning (both mean "prince"). He will never really use it, I think, but second names are easy to play with in this way. His first name is very Anglo and won't be difficult for anyone to say.

AhsokaTano · 27/06/2012 10:36

Our boys have their godfather's names as middle name, plus a family one. DS1 is after my dad and grandfather (john) and DS2 is after DH (James).

This is the reason I am now struggling if DBaby turns out to be a boy!

babyblabber · 27/06/2012 09:09

DS's middle name is my dad's name which was also my maternal grandfather's name and is also my brother's middle name so I feel like it connects him to 3 generations of my family.

DD's middle name was going to be my sister's name (they get DH's surname so only fair they get a family name from me too!) but it's MIL's name. She's not well and sadly probably won't be here to see our kids grow up so wanted to give DD a piece of her as she probably won't remember her.

To be honest, I really don't see the point of middle names unless there is some meaning/family connection to them.

IawnCont · 27/06/2012 08:51

I have two sons, and their first names and middle names are after members of my family. The way I see it, they got DH's family name as a surname, and got my family names as first names. :)

mathanxiety · 27/06/2012 06:02

Grin Janoschi.

All five DCs have first and second names that are family names. DD3's name additionally is a reference to a Biblical story indicating a promise for the future after calamity, very apt as she was born after the loss of her beloved grandfather and aunt and she seemed to represent life springing back again.

Janoschi · 27/06/2012 02:18

My DD is named after the old 15thC inn where she was conceived and spent the first 4 months of her life. And no, her name isn't Pig And Whistle.

dlady · 26/06/2012 20:25

My dd1's middle name is also my mum's first name and my MIL's second name, they have the same names spelled the same way but different ways round. Dd2's middle name is one that we found on MIL's family tree (she is into doing her family tree).
