I am looking for names for boy or girl;
my family are Scottish
my in laws are Indian Muslims
I myself am Muslim too..

I am looking for a nice name with a nice meaning, my family would need to be able to pronounce it..

I have thought of a few already:

for a Girl:
Nusaiba (noo-say-bah)
Ruqayah (roo-ka-ya) - it means gentle
Sumaya (soo-ma-ya)
Aleena (A-leena) - it means silk of heaven
Hajar (ha-jar)
Eshal (E-shal) - it means a flower of heaven
Nadirah (na-dee-rah) - it means shining and radiant

For a Boy:
Hassan (has-san) - it means beautiful
Tariq (ta-ree-q) - it means star
Hudhayfah (hoo-DHay-fah)

I still have a couple months to go to decide yet...!

For me it's important to have a beautiful meaning, and also I'm not really concerned if it sounds western or eastern or most popular name 2012 lists etc

any help/input is appreciated.

From your list I would go with Aleena and Tariq. I think they sound the nicest and the easiest to pronounce for someone not used to those names ie they sound as they are spelt.

strawberrypenguin · 23/06/2012 13:04

Actually I quite like sumaya too Smile

strawberrypenguin · 23/06/2012 13:07

Not fond of Hajar though sounds quite harsh (sorry for multiple posts on phone) in the end though it doesn't matter what I or anyone else thinks as long as you like and your DH like the name

I think Eshal is lovely.

Guava · 23/06/2012 13:21

Sumaya or Aleena for a girl, Hassan for a boy.

CarriMarie · 23/06/2012 15:33

I like Aleena or Nadirah for a girl or Tariq for a boy.

tammy234 · 23/06/2012 15:58

I like Nadirah and Sumaya from your girls' list and Hassan and Tariq from your boys' list, but actually quite like all your suggestions. I like the fact that you choose names that have cultural relevance to you as well as lovely meanings. People will learn to pronounce any of your suggestions. Good luck!

I like Aleena and Nadirah

For boys, I like Tariq

Esclaffer · 23/06/2012 20:18

I always adored Hassan. Sumaya and Eshel are beautiful, especially Eshel.

Lannie33 · 26/06/2012 02:45

Ruqayah or Aleena.
Tariq for a boy.

humblebumble · 26/06/2012 04:33

I love the name Aaliyah for a girl and love the meaning for Saheed (happy, blissful) for a boy

hatebeak · 26/06/2012 09:16

Nadirah and Tariq are lovely. I like Eshal too.

MammaTonic · 26/06/2012 09:59

Totally agree with hatebeak.

For me, Eshal followed by Nadirah for a girl. Tariq for a boy. Beautiful name choices, OP, with beautiful meanings to boot. Just lovely x
