Charlotte, Verity or Emme?

I'm due next month and struggling to decide which girls name I would prefer for our potential DD (not sure if boy or girl yet - but boy names are sorted).

Whilst I love Charlotte and would use the nickname Lottie (which is my grandmother's middle name) my only concerned is that it is quite popular at the moment.

My DH loves the name Verity, and I like it too but I quite like names with easy nicknames.

We both like Emme but have had comments that it doesn't sound like a full proper name.

What do you think?

Emme sounds like it is Emmie and short for something.

DC3 was going to be Verity but he was a boy!

Other names we liked;

Anna
Esme
Thea
Althea
Una
Helena

I like Emme - how do you say it? Em - me?

I wanted Verity for one of mine but DH vetoed so it didn't make the final cut. LOVELY name and much underused IMO. V (Vee if you want a word!) as a nickname, works well.

Margerykemp · 22/06/2012 22:19

verity love it

TheMightyMojoceratops · 22/06/2012 22:19

Verity reminds me of ferrits and ferrity faces...

tammy234 · 22/06/2012 22:19

How would you pronounce Emme - Emmeh or Emmy? I would use Emmeline or Emily on her birth certificate.

I also like Charlotte, but am not a fan of Verity, sorry.

KateShmate · 22/06/2012 22:16

One of our DD's is an Emme and I absolutely love it - we would never call her 'Emmeline' so didn't see the point of having that as her 'official' name IYSWIM.

We did it with one of our other daughters and do slightly regret it - she's an Indiana, but is always always called Indy, so in a way we just wish that we'd had her named 'Indy' so that she wouldn't have to keep correcting people.

DS was 2.5 when his sister was born and could only manage Ettie for her name. Was quite cute. :)

Oddly we sometimes lengthen her name, she is often Verity Terity for some reason. Plus the usual embarrassing stuff like Toots, Curly Girl etc... But she's 3.5 and is very keen on announcing her full name to people.

RightBuggerforit · 22/06/2012 22:02

I'd chose Charlotte, but Verity is nice too. I see what you mean about Emme seeming short for something else. x

kickingKcurlyC · 22/06/2012 21:54

Oh, I love those nicknames for Verity!

I am mentally adding Verity onto my name list now.
(For the child I haven't started TTC yet.)

bouncysmiley · 22/06/2012 20:14

Verity is so pretty. Could be shortened to Vee.

EddieIzzardIsMine · 22/06/2012 19:57

Oh please go with Verity, I love it (and Felicity) but am not allowed as DP vetoed...

Nicknames could be -
Vi
Vita
Vera
Ettie
Etta
Eri (like airy)
Rita
Ty
True (since verity means truth in Latin but probably a bit 'out there'!)

jaffacakehips · 22/06/2012 19:49

I know a Verity and she's AMAZING.

Verity Charlotte = bootaful Grin

StepOutOfSpring · 22/06/2012 15:27

I like Verity best of those. Great suggestion of Emmeline with Emme for short, from Emphaticmaybe. Not so keen on Charlotte/Lottie.

halfdoneharris · 22/06/2012 15:27

Ooh Rhinestone what are her nicknames? I was thinking Etti and Vita may be quite cute?

My Verity is chuntering to me about dinosaur stickers :)

She has lots of silly nicknames, mostly not related to her name!

Emphaticmaybe · 22/06/2012 14:23

Verity is one of my favourite girl's names- would have used it for eldest DC (18) if he'd been a girl. It's so lovely it doesn't need a nn in my opinion.

Like Charlotte and Lottie - timeless, lovely.

Emme is nice but perhaps better as a short form of Emmeline.

NoVegBeforeHerMej · 22/06/2012 14:20

Oh I love the name Verity.

I've only met 1 in RL, and she is fab. (It's not me btw! Wink)
