Made-up name

OK, I don't want to give the actual name that I am thinking of (for a baby of either sex - due to be born in 2 weeks - eek!) but here is the formula/ problems:

Rhymes with two different names, one of each sex, so doesn't have an 'odd' ring to it.

Is not an actual name but is a word with positive associations - not a very long word BTW

Is not slang for anything nor the name of anything odd (as far as I can see from extensive google searches) - except for being the name of one (innocuous enough) body part in another language e.g. (but not) Japanese for elbow

I like the sound of it, I am sure that some friends will think it's an odd choice or even odd to make up a name but I don't like very popular names and this would have meaning for me.

What do you think - mad or brilliant?!

Pfft, if you're going down the route of making up names, you're not going to allow a thing like gender to get in the way. Wink The Beckhams used a girl name for their son, Cruz. And Harper sounds like a boys name to me.

Really though, it is impossible to judge without hearing the name.

marriedinwhite · 25/06/2012 08:26

Don't be silly. Give the poor child a proper name.

CurrySpice · 25/06/2012 08:26

Or is it in fact Elbow? Maybe with Grease as a middle name?

lagartija · 25/06/2012 08:25

But Cara is a girl's name....isn't this name unisex?

johnnycomelurky · 25/06/2012 08:21

Ray, Kaye...Yay?

PrettyPrinceofParties · 25/06/2012 08:19

Or is it actually Cara? Spanish for face.

PrettyPrinceofParties · 25/06/2012 08:18

I think the elbow thing was a red herring. Is it Pal? Korean for Arm. Rhymes with Sal and Hal.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/06/2012 08:04

If there might be Jo in it as that is what 'elbow' is in some of the Asian countries and Moy was the nearest guess, then it's got to be Joy. If it isn't, then the OP has the wrong name and that is the right Obe. Grin

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/06/2012 07:52

J O Y

CurrySpice · 25/06/2012 07:50

If its a normal word, and not a very long one, I would've thought that makes it pretty hard to google unless you've got a surname.

So just tell us

Fwiw I think made up names are rarely successful

SunshineOutdoors · 25/06/2012 07:43

I don't think there is a name....

CurrySpice · 25/06/2012 07:01

Oh how bloody irritating is this thread. Just say FFS!

stookiesackhouse · 25/06/2012 06:49

OP why not write three names and say it's one of them? Then we can comment on all without knowing which it is.

marchpoppy · 25/06/2012 06:38

Sashh yes in the same way that 'Cara' means 'friend' in Irish, that sort of positive association

OP posts:
sashh · 25/06/2012 01:02

Like Faith and Hope?

spongebrainfatpants · 24/06/2012 22:17

Give the child a proper bloody name FFs.

FunSizedMum · 24/06/2012 18:59

Go on; spill the beans. S p e l l it out like that and it won't be google-able. Not sure how anyone can ever comment on any name without even hearing it!

nooka · 24/06/2012 18:58

So you are planning to give your child a short word for their name on the grounds that it rhymes with his/her siblings. Knowing that many people will think it odd or in fact not even a name.

I'm wondering what the positive side of this decision is for your child?

It is not terribly difficult to chose a name that isn't very popular. So certainly not brilliant, but I'm afraid I tend toward dumb rather than mad.

oldqueenie · 24/06/2012 18:52

is the name as annoying as this thread?

SunshineOutdoors · 24/06/2012 18:42

If you're going to say if someone gets it, why can't you just say it now? Or pm someone and they can write it on the thread.

badtime · 24/06/2012 18:41

Nothing to do with the OP, but of the list on the first page of funny spellings of normal names, I have to point out that 'Alis' is actually an old spelling of Alice (from before formalised spelling was invented), rather than a modern made-up one.

oldqueenie · 24/06/2012 18:34

amck5700 · 24/06/2012 18:27

Day?
Bay?
Hay?
Say?

SoupDragon · 24/06/2012 18:14

Remember that it is not you who has to live with the name. Your child will. They will have a lifetime of it.
