I know a pair of teen twins called David and Cameron (they were named long before he got elected).

Also heard in NY: Grischa and Misha

Grisha is the nickname for "George" (Gay-or-gee) in Russian; Misha is the nickname for "Michael" (Mi-hai-eel) in Russian. So they were given proper names at least, even though the nicknames rhymed. I know a Tanya whose sons are Vanya and Danya... it happens a lot with Russian nicknames.

Poor Monique...

Lannie33 · 22/06/2012 03:37

My twin friends were Nicole and Victoria, as parents were trying to avoid rhyming....they ended being nn'd Nic and Vic at school. D'oh.

Years ago I heard that a vicar refused to christen twins Kate and Duplikate, could be an urban myth though.

baskingseals · 21/06/2012 22:18

i've always liked stella and astrid for girl twins

don't know if it's an urban myth but i think in the eighties there were some twins called blake and krystal.

I grew up in America and yes, they do have a thing for rhyming (or similar sounding) twin names, or at least they did in the 60's and 70's.

In my class, there was a Terry and Gary (they rhyme if pronounced the American way.)

I also remember a Shelly and Sheila, a Kerry and Sherry, a Sharon and Karen, John and Don and Duane and Jane.

Oh My, I wish I didn't remember.

NapaCab · 21/06/2012 19:34

'only in America'?

Hmm, I'm sure you would find parents with equally tacky name combinations in the UK. It's about people who are stupid and lack taste and there are plenty of those on both sides of the Atlantic!

Some US first names for babies that I've come across are very weird though, seem to be made up out of thin air.

Somersaults · 21/06/2012 19:23

I taught a Leon and Leah pair.

Badgerina · 21/06/2012 19:15

Dick and Fanny?

LittleMissSomersault · 21/06/2012 19:08

Bonnie and Clyde?! They have high ambitions for their twins.
I did say tell dp that if we ever had boy twins, they would have to be Bill and Ben.
I did know twins called Amanda and Andrew - their parents call them by their first name, but everyone else just called them Mandy and Andy. Don't they think these things through?

jaffacakehips · 21/06/2012 18:59

Oh, and London and Paris..

amck5700 · 21/06/2012 18:22

Ooh just a thought

Ben & Jerry
Tom & Jerry
Frankie & Benny

MummysLittleSunbeams · 21/06/2012 18:12

I don't know if it's just an American thing but they all seem to want twin names that match, or have the same number of letters, have the same initials, rhyme or the worst I've seen are when they have the same name but with the letters reversed such as Heaven & Nevaeh or Aidan & Nadia.. boak!

Hmmmm how about

Jack & Jill
Bill & Ben
Zoe & Chloe

Hmm
