Eric or Linus?

Which one do you prefer, and why?

If it makes any difference, the baby will be 75% white, 25% Japanese. Taking from his older brother, he'll probably look slightly Asian, but not much (think of a Russian, or maybe someone with Mongolian ascent). His older brother has fair greyish eyes, was born with redish hair (has darkened now).

What I'm trying to say is that DS2 probably won't look properly Japanese, but won't be a blonde Arian guy either, (so no point naming him Katsushiro or Otto). I want a name that fits a person with a mixed heritage (specially because I don't know how exactly he'll will look, and want a name that fits any face).

OP posts:

I like both. Probably Linus slightly more though.
Will he be visiting Japan? I wonder if they have the same L pronunciation issues that a lot of people who live in that area have.
My DHs name starts with R, let's call him Robin. When we lived in Thailand, he was inevitably Lobin.

But Eric is worse

usualsuspect · 17/06/2012 14:31

neither

notheroldie · 17/06/2012 14:15

neither imo

StepOutOfSpring · 17/06/2012 14:12

Eric, definitely :) Nice classic name, understated and due a comeback.

Linus is like lines and sinus.

Staceisace · 17/06/2012 14:08

Eric makes me think of two things - the guy in the Little Mermaid and a guy we all know as 'Creepy Eric'. I think it's a bit harsh for a little boy unless there's a nn you could use.

Not a fan of Linus either - it makes me think of the operating system but not everyone would have heard of that so I'd say I prefer it to Eric.

Both are names that wouldn't have come to mind at all if thinking about a baby born in 2012 which might be a good thing if you're wanting something a bit different!

I like Eric better.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 17/06/2012 09:48

Eric is ok. Linus is not.

WithACherryOnTop · 17/06/2012 09:46

Eric is great, and would fit a child of any heritage. I know a child of Chinese heritage with this name, and it really suits him.

I don't like Linus at all.

Dprince · 17/06/2012 09:14

I like Eric, its my dads name. Ds has it as his middle name. Dad begged me not to give it as a first name. I like but I could see his point, its not what I would pick for a first name now.

FairLadyRantALot · 17/06/2012 01:21

I like the name Eric :) It is a timeless/ageless name....
Now Linus I used to think was cute... until I went back to Germany on holiday and hear d a German mummy call her boy Leenoos...just never ever was able to think about the name the same way .... (btw. I am German just that German pronunciation of that name put me right of it.)

JazzAnnNonMouse · 17/06/2012 01:17

I don't like Eric

Bunbaker · 16/06/2012 23:49

I'm not keen on Eric. When I was at school it was considered such a naff, uncool name. It also reminds me of the Monty Python song about Eric the Half a Bee.

Linus reminds me of the Peanuts cartoons, but I like the name.

CaptainNancy · 16/06/2012 23:49

Linus is lovely.
