Hi, DH and I are expecting a boy in September, we have decided he will be either Mikey or Martin. Would love some opinions please...

Martin.

Mikey is really not a good choice for a grown man... Wouldn't you rather name him Michael or Micah so he has some options as he grows?

Martin is a fine, solid and sensible name and you don't hear of too many baby Martins these days.

PercyFilth · 15/06/2012 00:52

Love Michael but Mikey is a no-no. So Martin gets my vote.

WithACherryOnTop · 14/06/2012 23:33

Martin is very nice.

Mikey isn't.

StepOutOfSpring · 14/06/2012 23:10

Martin, definitely. Sensible and classic, but if you want a nickname you could have Marty for short.

TuesdayNightClub · 14/06/2012 23:03

Martin wins hands down. I like the name Michael very much but just 'Mikey' is pretty bad, I'm sorry.

EverybodysSleepyEyed · 14/06/2012 22:56

I guess Mikey could be shortened to Mike in years to come

CotedePablo · 14/06/2012 22:53

Mikey is very cute for a little boy - a tad ridiculous in 30 odd years times when he's MD of a multinational company. But hey, each to their own - you're not the one who'll have to live with the name.

Ridiculousrick · 14/06/2012 22:37

That really made me laugh MSD, hasn't put me off as I really love it!

Well Mikey is OK as a short form for Michael. But not as a name on its own. There's nothing wrong with Martin but it doesn't appeal much to me.

EverybodysSleepyEyed · 14/06/2012 22:35

Mikey makes me think of New Kids on the Block

much prefer Martin/Marty

BellaOfTheBalls · 14/06/2012 22:35

I would go for Martin personally only because I cannot stand nicknames used as first names.

tethersend · 14/06/2012 22:34

LOVE Mikey; would have called DD2 that if she'd been a boy. In fact, I still might.

thisisyesterday · 14/06/2012 22:33

i like both, but i'm leaning a teeny bit toward Martin simply because it's so underused right now

MidWeekSlump · 14/06/2012 22:32

Mikey would be ok as a nickname and if we were americans living in the 70's.
Martin is ok.

Ridiculousrick · 14/06/2012 22:29

Just Mikey.
