Girl/Boy twins - heeeelp!

bettycrocker · 11/06/2012 18:56

Just found out we're having girl/boy twins which, though lovely, is also a bloody headache for naming. DH and me would like something to reflect the fact that these babies are long awaited so we were thinking maybe a virtue name or something with a nice, happy meaning. Fairly unusual would be nice. ATM frontrunners are Prosper, which is DH's MN, and Celeste. I know Prosper's a bit out there but it's not completely nutty I hope. Surname is 3 syllables, common, beginning with W. Any opinions/ideas most welcome!

Some of these are lovely, thanks folks! Also nice to see that some people like Prosper, DH will be chuffed Grin

winkle, I think Anais is pronounced Ann-eye-ees rather than Ann-ay

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/06/2012 14:10

I think the names you have chosen are lovely, and am amazed that so many people are saying Prosper isn't nice Shock

nizlopi · 13/06/2012 13:59

Not relevent, but if I were having boy/girl twins I'd call them Tim and Daisy. Like the characters from Spaced. Because YES.

winkle2 · 13/06/2012 13:58

Anae is nice but better when spelled Anais!

fanjodisfunction · 13/06/2012 13:19

constantine
Magnus
Victor

are male virtue names.

MerryMarigold · 13/06/2012 13:13

Oops, I have checked and the girl is called Anae. Bro is Elijah.

winkle2 · 13/06/2012 13:05

MerryMarigold, what is the twin called? It's a beautiful name I think. Would be interested to hear what it was paired with.

WineOhWhy · 13/06/2012 09:20

Other possible virtue names for girls are Honor and Mercy. Quite like Celeste. Dont like Prosper. Virtue name for boys are hard. Felix is about the best.

MerryMarigold · 13/06/2012 09:17

oh ok, winkle2, I know an Anaia who is a twin and has a twin bro.

mathanxiety · 13/06/2012 06:01

I really like Prosper. I think it has a bold early Victorian feel to it.

How about
Blythe
Letitia
Beatrix/Beatrice
for a girl?

bellabelly · 13/06/2012 00:05

Congrats on your twins - twins are ace! Hard work, but sooo worth it. (I have 2 sets...) I don't really like the name Prosper (sorry) but if you and your DH do, then go for it! Of the sort of "virtue" names, I've always liked Unity. I'd avoid deliberately choosing names beginning with the same letter tbh, just go for the names you like best!

SingingSands · 12/06/2012 23:57

When I was at school (peers through the mists of time...) there were b/g twins in the year below me called Debbie and Derek.

Just had to share that.

Now, Prosper.. that could be a bit tiresome in a few years time when you've spelled it/explained the reasoning behind it for the 97,000 time...

CJfromTheWestWing · 12/06/2012 23:51

Sorry, don't like Prosper, though Prospero is okay.

winkle2 · 12/06/2012 23:28

No I don't have an Anaia :) I don't have any children... Yet!

MerryMarigold · 12/06/2012 23:14

I love the name Miriam

Max and Miriam?
Mark and Miriam?

MerryMarigold · 12/06/2012 23:13

winkle2, do you have an Anaia? I know you!!!

winkle2 · 12/06/2012 23:01

Anaia means god answered.

Miriam means long awaited child

WhiteHairReally · 12/06/2012 21:34

Celeste was the name of Barbar the Elephant's wife. I think they named a city after her.

CloudRazor · 12/06/2012 21:28

That should be fussed Blush

CloudRazor · 12/06/2012 21:27

I have boy/girl twins called Bruno and Lyra Smile
They're 3.5.
I wasn't really fused on meanings - Lyra means lyre which is a string instrument and Bruno means brown.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2012 21:19

Huge congratulations. :)

Celeste is okay but Prosper is quite a hard load to give a child, I think. it just reminds me of, "All the infections that the sun sucks up. From bogs, fens, flats, on Prosper fall" from 'The Tempest.'

Constance and Verity are nice. Hope and Faith both fine too.

Naomi means 'beautiful and pleasant' which I think is lovely. Prudence could be due a revival too.

Benedict?

CheerfulYank · 12/06/2012 20:45

Prosper is quite out there...you could call him Ross or something for short though. :)

I like Celeste. Verity is also very pretty, I think, as well as Honor/Honoria, Constance ( I know a lovely little Constance) or Serenity, which I love.

FfoFfycsecs · 12/06/2012 20:37

I like Celeste, but in my honest opinion, Prosper is very out there. It makes me think of a barrel-chested mayor type with a very red face. A bit pretentious. Sorry (and keep in mind that I'm only a woman off the internet and loads of people will love it.)
Geraint is a Welsh name meaning loved one.

hatebeak · 12/06/2012 20:33

I like Prosper and Celeste. If Prosper is a family name, I think you can get away with it. It's unusual, but not ridiculous, sweet for a baby and dignifed for an adult.
