Was told about a poor little girl called this the other day.

Was my family BU to laugh a lot at this unfortunate name? When I was a little girl your tuppence was your fanny!

There is a 10yr old in DS class who used to be called Tuppence. It was as a nn for her full name (Penelope) she now insists on going by Pen or Nel. Anyone brave enogh to call her Tuppence is liable to have their teeth knocked out(ds says she reeeealy good at Judo)Grin.

Nobhead · 11/06/2012 21:25

A Tuppence is a fanny without doubt.

SocksOnFire · 11/06/2012 21:11

I know a south african Tuppence - she's beautiful

Lunarlyte · 11/06/2012 21:00

Oh dear.

When my little 3 year old girl needs a wee and we're not near the loo, I say to her 'my darling, can you hold your tuppence?'

So to my mind it's a cute word for your fanjo :-/

blonderthanred · 11/06/2012 19:44

I know a dog named Tuppence (usually written as 2p). She is well grumpy.

howcomes · 11/06/2012 18:52

Does she have a sister called Penny?

PercyFilth · 11/06/2012 18:46

oops forgot to tick the box

PercyFilth · 11/06/2012 18:46

:o

thegreylady · 11/06/2012 18:15

It must be inflation when I was young my dad used to tell me to "keep your hand on your ha'penny if you are cuddlin' with a lad!"

PercyFilth · 11/06/2012 15:45

I thought of the Agatha Christie one as well. I suspect it'll be a nickname though. Looked at three random year statistics and no Tuppence (or Twopence).

Tiggy's first name is Alexandra, if memory serves.

eatyourveg · 11/06/2012 15:36

I know of a Tuppence too. She is older than 3

MaryPoppinsBag · 11/06/2012 15:33

Many = Nanny!

MaryPoppinsBag · 11/06/2012 15:29

Definitely name for a fanjo in the 1980's round my way.

Their many was Tiggy Legge Burke (sp?)

squoosh · 11/06/2012 15:29

Tiggy! That was it, posh people be bonkers.

DottieRose · 11/06/2012 15:25

I think it is a super cute name....live and let live!

Frontpaw · 11/06/2012 15:24

William and Harrys nanny was called something like Tiggy or something. You can get away with it if you are dead posh!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 11/06/2012 15:23

Tuppence can only bring to mind Tuppence Beresford. As in Tommy & Tuppence. I believe her real first name was Prudence though!

SirEdmundFrillary · 11/06/2012 15:22

I'm trying to formulate something about pound coins and pudendas but it's not coming off.

squoosh · 11/06/2012 15:21

Although if I saw someone constantly holding her tuppence or her ha'penny that would be a bit disconcerting.

Or in similar monetary euphemisms 'Keep your hand on your ha'penny'.

SirEdmundFrillary · 11/06/2012 15:18

When I was a little girl it was not, but I know someone who used to be told 'keep hold of your tuppence' when she was off for an evening out.

mrsbugsywugsy · 11/06/2012 15:17

I know someone with a cat called this

Whitershadeofpale · 11/06/2012 15:16

NorbertDentressangle · 11/06/2012 15:15
