Girls names harder to find than boys!

Has anyone else found this?

We like good, strong boys names- which seem to be plentiful. However, I want a strong girls name that is also pretty without sounding "wet". Proving so difficult!
Boys name we both like and think we're set on is Isaac John (but we do have a list of 7/8 others) and the only girls name we've found common ground on is Eilah Kate/Isla Kate. What are your thoughts inc spelling? Thank god I have another 5 months to swap and change my mind!!! It's so hard! Haha

Oh, other names you might like:

Eliza, Iris, Esme, Esther, Ada. Also like Orla and Iona suggested above.

What sydenhamhiller said - the whole world is calling their babies Isla currently! (though it is not top 10 except in Scotland - yet)

Isaac is lovely, was on our boys list.

Isaac John and Isla Kate are gorgeous names imo. Great choice. I've never seen Eilah before, definitely prefer the 'I' spelling.

Other 'strong' but pretty girls names could be:
Anna, Bethan, Charlotte, Darcey, Erin, Faith, Grace, Hannah, Iris, Juliet, Kathryn, Lauren, Martha, Nicole, Orla, Paige, Quinn, Rosa, Sadie, Tegan, Verity, Xanthe, Zara.

Isaac John is nice (or how about John Isaac? You don't hear the name John very much ATM).

How about Iona or Ivy for a girl?

sydenhamhiller · 11/06/2012 13:41

No, definitely not Isla it's my daughter's name, and we're gutted that it was unknown 7 years ago and now in top 10 :o)

Seriously, it is a lovely name, and she is often complimented on it...but in a SE London cafe this morning there were 3 1-2 year olds called Isla, as well as DD... I wish we'd picked Iona!

Thanks Smile maybe it's because I feel I'm having a boy so I'm too focused on boys names without realising it? Grinhaha. I too prefer Isla over Eilah, however on a babynames site- girls/women who were already named this or had daughters named this said that so many people would annoyingly pronounce it as its written; not realising the S is silent. I'd get so annoyed if I had to keep correcting people!! That's the only reason I'm looking for alternative spelling.

I'm not so bothered about names being popular or not I just tend to go with what sounds right :) oooo choices...

We're just the same! We could happily name five or six little boys, but I'm worried we'll find it tricky if it's a girl.

I prefer the spelling Isla Kate, and agree that it sounds both strong and pretty.

Girls' names we've been considering include Ruth, Zoe, Faith and Emily. But we don't like any of them as much as our boys' names!

Isla Kate is lovely, popular at the moment, but, not overused. I would go with that spelling.

I agree that girls names are much harder!
