I love the name Goodluck (as in Goodluck Jonathan, president of Nigeria). Not brave enough to use it though. Other than Innocent what other virtue names can you think of for men? I can think of loads for girls but not boys.

I really like Constant and August.

tumbleweedblowing · 09/06/2012 16:05

My grandad's middle name was Patience. Never a more apt name was given. Loved him to bits.

Hero just feels like a girl's name to me (a beautiful one though).

From the above I love, in order, Benedict, Constantine, Nikita, Pax, Felix and Modesto.

Also a couple of Irish names: Angus means something like 'great vigour' and Enda ? 'freedom of spirit'.

Capability is indeed an awesome nickname - and very appropriate.

Always get a giggle when we drive past Luton. There's a business park called Capability Green. Misplaced optimisim... (I assume that flash of inspiration was because C Brown laid out the gardens at Luton Hoo, an estate - as in posh nobs not as in housing - on the edge of Luton mere hundreds of yards from the business park.)

I love this thread. My daughter has a virtue name as one of her mn and we wanted the same for our son.

Christian, Pax and Clement was the three high fliers for us. In the end we went for Benedict, which means blessed. Not really a virtue name, but it was more suitable for our circumstances.

Alexander = leader of men?

Sometimes only you need to know the meaning, the idea is then passed to DC in your attitude iyswim.

Loveday is fabulous name for boys or girls, and has a great explanation.

ChasedByBees · 09/06/2012 11:11

Oh crap, I didn't read the above properly, sorry Edam!

ChasedByBees · 09/06/2012 11:10

I know his actual name was Lancelot, but I always thought Capability Brown was an awesome name.

herecomesthsun · 09/06/2012 10:38

I did think that Serendipity would be a lovely name for a girl.

edam · 09/06/2012 09:35

Capability Brown's real first name was Lancelot. Not exactly virtuous if you know your Arthurian legends, but still striking.

madmouse · 09/06/2012 09:32

I did come across the opposite yesterday. A Zimbabwean dignitary called Tedious...

WifiNappies · 09/06/2012 09:18

Don't know if it counts as one but I love the name Titus.

rockinhippy · 09/06/2012 09:16

I know an adult Hero & a Prosper, both are men, actually both are tall dark & handsome, leather clad retro biker guys & both are very successful in their chosen creative fields - the names are not NN, but birth names that they somehow grew up into suiting perfectly :)

Gunznroses · 09/06/2012 09:13

As in Capability Brown.

HandMadeTail · 09/06/2012 06:35

Hero is a girls name. (Hero and Lysander)

Some names which mean lucky

-Bonaventure
-Boniface
-Ennio
-Felix/Felice/Felicien
-Maddox

Apparently "Lucky" can be used as a name, or as a nickname for Luke and there is an Old English "Chauncey"
