Do you know anyone, adult or child, called Aurelia?

I love this name.

How many are out there? (particularly in Britain, I realise it's popular in Eastern Europe and other European countries),

If you know one how old are they? What do they get called?

I think it is a very pretty name and I know several Aurelia's. However, it is a name with a lot of character and I think that it can be quite hard to carry off if you don't have the beautiful and headstrong personality of the name itself!

AceOfBase · 07/06/2012 14:51

Don't know any but its ony list for dc3 (currently cooking) tis beautiful :)

RetroMum1 · 07/06/2012 14:51

I know one, 2 days old and she's super cute.

MoonHare · 07/06/2012 14:39

One 2 year old. Her Mum is from eastern Europe. Don't think her name is shortened to anything.

MyPetMonsterAndMe · 07/06/2012 14:31

I know a 16 year old Aurelia, as far as I know she is only ever called by her full name.

MsOliveOyl · 07/06/2012 13:22

None, apart from the girl in Love Actually! It's a gorgeous name.

DaftMaul · 07/06/2012 11:44

I know an adult (French) Aurelie 'OR-e-lee'

I also know a 10yr old Dorelia - not as pretty, imho.

Mechavivzilla · 07/06/2012 11:37

I know one, Polish I think, in her late twenties and she is an awful person! Gold-digger in the extreme and proud of it!

However it is a really lovely name and I would only have a very brief shudder if I met another one. :)

birdofthenorth · 07/06/2012 11:35

The only one I've come across is the character in Love Actually!

Spice17 · 07/06/2012 11:33

Love it for my DD but how is it pronounced? Looks like in a few different ways? Is it prettier with emphasis on ee sound? I thought it sounded like aw-rah-lia?

Under, love Elia as shortened version, saw that name yesterday funnily enough and liked that too!

watfordmummy · 07/06/2012 11:28

Two girls both 12!

HarderToKidnap · 07/06/2012 11:27

One, 7 months old.

underthevalley · 07/06/2012 11:25

I know one who is in her 30's in South Africa. She gets called Elia. It's alright I guess

I don't know any but I love it. DH doesn't like it so it was on my "fantasy name" list when I was pg.

AWomanCalledHorse · 07/06/2012 07:27

One (24), she's Israeli & she gets called Ariel alot.

weaselm4 · 07/06/2012 07:24

I know an Aurelia (in her 20s) and an Aurel (in his 50s I think). They're both Romanian, and pronounced with an Ow sound.

Cool name!

chocoroo · 07/06/2012 07:09

Love it. It was our alternative middle name for DD. suspect we'll use it if we ever have another.

evamummy · 07/06/2012 07:06

I know a boy called Aurelien. His dad is French.

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor · 07/06/2012 02:05

Yes, I know one. She lives in the UK but is originally Basque. She's in her 70s.

I've known her all my life and have never heard anyone call her anything other than Aurelia.

Wasn't there also an Aurelia in Ecce Romani? Grin

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 07/06/2012 01:58

Should point out...the Elia it I say EElia...not EL-ia.

[if that's confusing enough!)

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 07/06/2012 01:58

I love t and thought of it for DD1 but I was worried people might say it wrongly...I say it "Or-Elia" to rhyme with PAW...and thought people might say "Ow-Realia" to rhyme with Cow...

SkipTheLightFanjango · 07/06/2012 01:50

One, currently in reception year at school. Lovely name.
