Has anyone heard/know of...

Elfie?

I heard it a few years ago as a customer of a company I worked for had named their child Elfie.

Is it too different? From googling I think variants are Elva and Elvie?

I know someone who has a little girl called Elfie, it's short for Elfrieda, I think it's really pretty.

There's a elfinein cold comfort farm. I always liked it although like another poster said it's unlikely any of my children will have elf like proportions so best left for others

Elvira was Samantha's mother in Bewitched, wasn't she? but then you have to be as old as me to remember that. Grin
I really really don't like the name Vera so couldn't take that risk, but Elvie is nice.

Any thoughts on Elvira? there's a fine line between the f and v sounds, so a feminine Elvira could be Elfie/Elvie. Otherwise Vera is a less girly nn, with a good meaning of its own = true.

Yes I was thinking of a girl. But tbh it's just an idea to add/cross of the list at this point. Looking at DH though, if we had a girl she'd probably be a Tom boy and not very elf like so maybe it wouldn't suit Grin
DH is half Irish which is why I looked at the Elvie alternative.
Not to keen on Elfrida but don't mind Elfine.

I like names that aren't too popular i.e. top 50/100 but aren't to made uppy. But I don't know if Elfie would fall in to the second category?

Thanks for your input and if it helps DH and I have no Turkish blood whatsoever so I don't this what CDA will be an issue

Just to say that my dd-i-l and I have a wonderful relationship and I don't see how I am being stubborn!
I really know that this is not the place for a 'row like this but all I have ever said is that I know a Turkish man named Elfi-which I do. I don't know how he got his name-I do know that his family has been Turkish for as long as Turkey has been a nation.
I am leaving this thread now I never expected personal abuse on a baby name thread! I have told my lovely daughter in law what has been said and she has told me that I am right in what I have said and that CDA is just being silly.
I have always loved the baby names part of MN but to be honest this has spoiled the whole site for me. I will stick to the Tamoxifen thread in future.

TheGreyLady - I'm sorry it is taking this long to get my (simple) point across. I don't doubt that you know this man. What I am saying is that it is not a Turkish name. This is something i would know and you wouldn't. Please don't insist.

OP, were you thinking of it for a girl then? seeing that most of the non-Turkish argument posters have heard of it as a girl's name?
I've only seen it as a boy's name so far. But things are odd here.

I think Elfie would suit a little elfin girl. If she is a solid or tomboy type it might be harder to carry off, particularly in adult life.

Flipping heck this is getting ridiculous. The man I know is Turkish-you found his son by Googling. He has no Jewish, French or other origin. He is an elderly TURKISH man. A devout Moslem born and bred in a small fishing village on the West coast of Turkey. The first of his five sons shares his name. Please just stop it CoteDAzur-leave it alone now.
