James or Fraser

How many people/children do you know who are James but go by Jamie? I really love the nn Jamie, not fussed by James but think Jamie is just lovely. Potential popularity does put me off though as DS and DD have v. popular names and although they suit them it does somewhat irritate them being 'X initial'. So would this likely be the case with Jamie? Other possibility is Fraser.

My DS1 is James known by everyone as Jamie. We called him Baby James for about the first four weeks and from then on it was Jamie.

There are no other Jamies in his nursery (or James for that matter.) I do hear it in the parks a bit, more so round here in Essex than where we used to be in London though, and they seem to be a bit older - 8 or 9.

Looking at the stats James does seem to be getting a bit less popular. Fraser OTOH looks like it's about to go up again so might be a bit more dating. I don't know!

I think James' will always be around, you'll never hear someone say 'Oh, I haven't met a James in a while'.

James doesn't date, Fraser is having a surge, but they're both pretty safe bets in terms of not dating horribly.

Oh James is much nicer than Fraser... Which I wouldn't class as classic at all but that's my opinion.
