DD is named along similar lines - classic full name, old-fashioned nn.

Just wondering, like.

Ds (3) is James, nn Jim or Jimmy. It suits him :o.

jandymaccomesback · 01/06/2012 19:50

I taught a lovely Jimmy (he'd be about 14 now).

sparkle12mar08 · 01/06/2012 19:22

I'll poop the party then, as I hate Jim. It's coarse and ugly, sorry!

thegreylady · 31/05/2012 13:40

I love Jim too

Any family names you could use? I love a family name, me.

TartyMcFarty · 30/05/2012 22:08

Right, this is my front-runner at the moment. Now for a middle name ...

Spottyfrog4 · 30/05/2012 17:33

Love James I have one sometimes James sometimes Jamie and jim to his daddy.

elah11 · 30/05/2012 17:21

I have a Jamie and we sometimes call him Jim Bob as a nickname even though I really dont like Jim. Dh started it and now even I find myself saying it sometimes, but mostly its just Jamie :) (And his second name isnt even Robert ! )

anniemcphee · 30/05/2012 17:13

Love James! My Grandad was James, and I loved him to bits, such a wonderful person to know. So much so, I gave DS his name as a middle name Smile
Also like Jimmy as a NN for a little boy and Jim for a grown up.

(Mmmm Jimmy Clay from Doctors Grin sorry - off topic!)

BellaOfTheBalls · 30/05/2012 17:10

Lovely lovely lovely.

My Granpa was a James/Jim. I also know at least 4 others; one my mum's generation, one my generation, one the teenaged child of a friend and a baby.

Pinkcate · 30/05/2012 17:09

James-love
Jamie- love
Jim -love
Jimmy- strong dislike

ornellaia · 30/05/2012 16:35

DS is called James, nn Jamie. Before he was born I hated the name Jim/Jimmy and was adamant that nobody was to call him that Blush Now I quite like it, DD's pet name for him is Jimmy and I think it's really cute.

squoosh · 30/05/2012 16:26

Like Jim/Jimmy, dislike Jamie. I never think Jamie is a proper name for a grown man.

Lunarlyte · 30/05/2012 16:22

Tarty it seems that the general concensus is that Jim is ace. It's no different to other 'old man' names like Archie, Stan, Alfie, etc that are enjoying a renaissance right now.

It's not like you'd have Jim Surname on his birth certificate: it's going to be James Surname. So even if he HATES Jim, that's not his name!

If you want James and want to NN him Jim, go for it, kid! x

TartyMcFarty · 30/05/2012 16:12

I really don't like Jamie on the other hand.

I'd say that Jim Morrison was verrrrrrry nice ... Wink

But definitely not Jim Bowen ... ?lol!?

WithACherryOnTop · 30/05/2012 15:41

James is nice.Jim definitely isn't.

Littlecherublegs · 30/05/2012 14:45

Love James, like Jamie, but dislike Jim / Jimmy! Just sounds too 'old', sorry.

TartyMcFarty · 30/05/2012 10:57

Oh, I'm glad it's not gone down like a lead balloon. We also have a good friend called Jimmy, and it would be nice in that respect too.

Love it. I want DC 3 to be James known as Jim but DH ( who is James known as Jamie) won't have a bar of it.

Lunarlyte · 30/05/2012 09:14

I really like it. My Grandad was James and went by the NN Jim - he was lovely :) I have a friend with a James who is 14yo and he goes by the NN Jimmy, which is softer than Jim and I also really like

Lastofthepodpeople · 30/05/2012 06:35

I love it! I have a James who I wanted to be a Jim but DH didn't like it so James is the name that stuck.

freerangelady · 30/05/2012 06:33

My hubby's is a jim - don't see many these days but I like
