HELP! My DH thinks he is naming a dog / video game character!

Am I crazy for giving the veto to almost all of my DH's baby boy name suggestions? My DH thinks he is naming a dog / video game character! How do I get him to pick some "proper" boys names? Do I just hope that he falls in love with something off my list?

Here is his list:
#1 Maximus (max is my aunts dog)
#2 Hawk (from hawkeye on the avengers)
#3 Hunter (our friends dogs name)
#4 Shadow (my old cats name)
#5 Lukas aka Luke (as in skywalker)
#6 Markus (not sue where this came from, but not bad)

Here is my list:
#1 Alexander aka Alex (vetoed by dh)
#2 Elliott (DH is unsure about this one)
#3 Arthur (DH doesn't mind)
#4 Cole ( this one jums off and on my list depending on the week - Dh didn't comment so I'm thinking this one is coming off)
#5 Jasper (DH doesn't mind)
#6 Simon (DH isn't keen)
#7 Grayson (DH doesn't mind)

I should probably mention that my DH is a childrens coach, and that many of the names I came up with he said no way, because of some brat kid that he could remember.

Arthur shortened to Thor would be comic-book-tastic. I like Alex and Elliot too. Maximus would be a good middle name though (and he could use it later in life if he wanted to, without confusing the dog) - maybe you need to negotiate to have one name off each list, and then use your special vote to make sure the first name is from your list!

Hunter & Cole are not unusual in a country I used to live in. I wasn't sure about either at first, but they both grew on me and I like them both now :) I quite like Grayson too. Other than Hawk & Shadow I don't actually think your DH's list is that bad (if you normalised the spellings!)

Is your DH naming fecking Gladiators? Shaddow? Hunter?

I know a Cole. But don't like the name.

Elliott is my favorite at this point, but still another 21 is weeks to write and re-write (and add middle names to) the lists. This is the first draft. lol

I'm thinking Maximus would be ok as a middle name, and if the kid decides to like it and use it, then so be it! I don't think it's a bad name, but just that it is currently my Aunt's name that we see several times a year it could be a bit confusing at christmas! lol

Shadow i do think is mad... Huter is a great boys name, but our friend could be babysitting frequently and imagine the confusion for the poor dog.

what if son is quiet,bookish and restrained
not like a hunter,hawk,shadow or maximus. they are big names to live up to

Elliot, Marcus, Cole are all nice and I know one of each, Lucus is fine.

Maximilian would be ok, Hunter is fun, but you'd need more nerve than me.

Aaron is a fav of mine and means mountain of strength so that might appeal to DH.

I also like Cole and Jasper (although a friend has a dog called Jasper, so wouldn't be "allowed" to use it myself!)

I have lots of opinions beetle

Need to do lots of scrolling as on my phone (and will post a few times!!) but firstly, I totally agree. My DP flits from really Hindu/Indian names (that's just aren't me ) and Michael, Paul, Steven... Not awful names but certainly don't go with our surname and or the rest of the family names!!

I like Lucas very much

Maximus e.g Max is nice, so is Lukas (but the spelling Lucas is far nicer, what about Luca).

Arthur is nice from your list - could have a superhero type nickname if that is what dh likes e.g. Thor, Art, Artie.

DH reads comics. He seriously wanted to name ds Sinister after some post apocalyptic gun shark or other. I ignored him and let our more reasonable 4yo name her brother. He is named after a ninja turtle instead.

i mean, Shadow is not great but quite frankly it's on a par with Simon IMO!

i love Maximus, Lukas and Markus and I quite like Hunter too

from your list I like Elliott and Arthur

My DH likes Jedi (not even subtle) or Maverick (top gun)
DD's not helping my cause, their suggestions KarateMan or HappyBirthdayBaby!
He too has reasons for disliking anything on my list, fingers crossed u can come to an agreement, I managed to get Eleanor for DD2 because it's a car in gone in 60 seconds, so find a link to something he likes (somehow) to names on your list!

Why has nobody slated Grayson yet??? Sorry, but I think that's as unbearable as your DH's choices.

I'm also in favour of Lucas/ Marcus/ Luke.

No you are not being crazy, just concerned about your son's well-being which is basically what all moms should be!

I agree with Gnocci, the first 4 on his list are best left to fictional characters and I much prefer Lucas and Marcus spelled with a C too.
I like Alexander and Simon on your list. I am being biased here because it is my DS's name but, if your DH vetoed Alexander, how would feel about Alec? Axel is another option. Alexis too (but I hear it is becoming a girl's name now?).

Consensus maybe? : I am not a big fan of Jasper and since your DH seems to like "strong" names with the sound "k", I would suggest Caspar which is a variant of Jasper. What do you think?

I have a Marcus, love the name. But Hunter was the name I wanted to give him and didn't have the balls
