I need a name for dd4 - she is 2 weeks old! Suggestions welcome

I am going round in circles.

If I list my current shortlist and my other dcs names please can you give me your views on the list, and also any other ideas are really welcome.

Current Shortlist: (changes daily though!)

Cecilia
Cecily
Alice
Elinor (but don't like Ellie)
Arabella (but see other dds names)
Catherine (Kitty?)
Felicity
Imogen
Miranda
Martha

Other dds are

Alexandra - but known by her middle name of Poppy
Isabella
Phoebe

ds's are

Charles (Charlie)
Edward (Ned).

I am probably overthinking this now but she is 2 weeks old and i am getting fed up with being asked by everyone if "I've named that baby yet". I got called a cruel mother yesterday for not naming her!.

I had thought to stick with Cecily, but reactions from people haven't been very good and dh isn't very keen on it although he is willing to go along with it. also the other dds all have a view on the name, as does DH. I can't find one that seems to the one. Would like to avoid top 10 names - when we named Isabella it was in the 40s in the list and now it has shot up and I slightly regret using it now.

(I realise that I have completely outed myself to those people who know me in RL, so hello if you know me!).

Shame about the George connection - Georgiana is usually pronounced 'Georgie-anna', but apparently the Duchess of that name was used to be called 'George-aina'.

I don't think it's so common nowadays, but how about 'Anne'?

I wouldnt go with any of the ones on your shortlist because they are obviously not the right one (if they were you would have named her by now!!) I would take a day off and go for a day out with all the family. Forget about the naming, have a wonderful day and remember why you have a family.. feel the love surrounding you and It will come to you...!!

I love Alice, it is one of my favourites. Out of Cecily or Cecilia, I prefer Cecily but not madly keen. Go for Alice!

Before I even read your shortlist I was going to suggest either Cecelia or Cecily I wasn't allowed those names but DD picked Cecelia as her confirmation name:)

You are obviously a georgette heyer fan! One of my favourite books is Cotillion so Kitty gets a thumbs up from me. I also like Cecily

Cecily is my favourite name ever. DH says no sadly as he thinks its too posh. (we are not unposh to be honest but there you go)All your dd's name on on my list for dc3 so we obv have similar taste - can I ask what your boys choices would have been this time?

Alice is my favourite but there are a LOT of them around (I wouldn't use it for this reason). Go for Cecily, it's lovely.

Then it has to be Cecilia. Cecily is a bit too twee and cutesy - Cecilia sounds elegantly classic.

Not sure about Francesca. Penelope and Clementine got vetoed. I suggested a few flower names including Dahlia, Cammelia and Zinnia and they got short shrift from the rest of the family. I love Mabel too but can't use it because of our surname, but may have it as a mn

Have gone off martha now as my children seem to pronounce it Marfa which is quite irritating.

I can't use George names because there is one in the family, and also there is a famous George with our surname. i'm also a bit unsure how to promounce Georgiana. i do like Georgie though

I think I am back to either Cecily or Cecilia!.

Oh have Cecilia please, I adore that name and have done for years. Failing that call her Penelope, Evangeline or Clementine, Dahlia, Camellia or Daphne. All my favourites.

I have just had a third child and liked the name Cecily had he been a girl! I have an Alexandra and a Francesca, as a thought do you like Francesca? I won't be offended if you don't!!

If you like but aren't sure about Cecily and Cecilia, how about Cecile or even better Celeste?
Or maybe if you like Clemency but aren't sure what about:

Cecily- My DD2 is Cecily and I love it but I have always loved it and was thrilled when DH agreed to it (after she was born also) :) I am kind of getting the impression that you don't feel sure and I see it is a little different to your other names also which makes me wonder if it is not quite right for you.
Cecilia- lovely, also Celia
Miranda- like this a lot (my own mn)
Felicity- pretty but always sounds a little too girly/ prissy to me.
Catherine/Kitty- have always loved Catherine/ Katharine.
Alice (middle name I think)- love this too and would definitely use it as a mn particularly as it is a family name.
Thea (added - I like Theodora best I think)- pretty. Probably prefer the longer versions- Dorothea particularly.

For you, I would probably choose Cecilia, Miranda or Catherine, followed by Alice (only because of the initially sharing).

Cecily or Felicity for me. Beautiful names. Don't like Clemency as the Clemmie/phlegmy potential nn would annoy me!

'Clemency' basically means merciful (the phrase 'to sue for clemency' - i.e. asking the judge/person in power for mercy) so the meaning is lovely (as is the name).

Would Georgia / Georgette / Georgiana suit?

I think we've got similar taste, as all of my children's names are in your list! (well, you're missing a Hector).

My advice would be to avoid Felicity or Cecily. I knew one of each as a child, one was very shy, the other had a lisp and so both found speaking their names out loud tricky.

Love Catherine Alice, using Kitty as a nickname. Would have gone with that if I'd had another girl actually! Arabella was also on our list, but I decided it sounded a bit like 'arrogant'. Too similar to Isabella as well, which is the nicer name.

In my view Imogens are ALWAYS wide-hipped heifers with freckles (don't know why) and I would avoid Eleanor if you don't like Ellie or Nellie.

I know you didn't mention it, but I liked Lydia too, although my husband vetoed it as he said it sounded like chlamydia!

Yup, for me Kitty Alice is head and shoulders above the rest.

I love Clementine, but dh vetoed this.

My absolute favourite name was Clemency - he also vetoed that. tbh I'm not too sure about the meaning of Clemency anyway, but I love the name iyswim. Perhaps I should just insist on this name.

I know I keep mentioning Cecily, but something seems not quite right about it for me. to me it does seem a bit soft and maybe a few too many lispy sounds. Oh I don't know! (not much sleep last night isn't helping things).

I am kind of leaning towards Cecilia this morning, but love Felicity and Miranda too.

i'm too indecisive really, but she is definitely going to have a name by the end of the weekend!
