Thanks! But that's only French. The name is in use, apparently with other pronunciations, elsewhere in Europe. And in Britain, where it isn't indigenous (IYSWIM) you may well get others (plus "ines" to rhyme with 'mines') and I know I would get a bit fed up of pointing out again and again which way it was. But that's just me, others might not mind.

Thanks!

I like queenedith's erudite answer the best.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/05/2012 22:03

In-Ez with an emphasis on the e.

PipFEH · 19/05/2012 20:09

In-ez for Ines, which I think of as a Spanish girl's name, and In-iss for Innes, which I think of as a Scottish boy's name.

QueenEdith · 19/05/2012 20:05

If French, then the first syllable is slightly nasal and the vowel is between 'in' and 'an' (it's a mediaeval, romance version of Agnes).

Herrena · 19/05/2012 20:03

I think it's In-Ez.

Folicacid · 19/05/2012 20:03

In-ez

If it was Innes, I would pronounce it In-ess

scottishmummy · 19/05/2012 20:02

the pronunciation doesn't change by gender
innes is nice name

Catsmamma · 19/05/2012 20:01

i'd say In- ness for a boy and E- nez for a girl.

scottishmummy · 19/05/2012 19:59

in-iz
and I'd spell it innes

Bunbaker · 19/05/2012 19:54

pictish · 19/05/2012 19:51

Or Inn-iss.

In Scotland it's spelled Innes and pronounced In-iz.

pictish · 19/05/2012 19:50

In-ez.

robusta · 19/05/2012 19:49

Its in-esh or in -es or in-ez

Pootle78 · 19/05/2012 19:46

I read it as eye-ness (doesn't help does it?!)

Allthesanityinme · 19/05/2012 17:30

In-ez

PorkyandBess · 19/05/2012 15:38

in-Ez

AmberLeaf · 19/05/2012 15:35

This thread goes to show that whatever the correct pronunciation is........the child will grow up with it being pronounced incorrectly!

Conflugenglugen · 19/05/2012 14:56

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 19/05/2012 14:55

Caramelespresso · 19/05/2012 14:44

In German it's Ee-ness

PurplePidjin · 19/05/2012 14:43

I thought there was an accent on the e and it was In-yes? Or In-yeth possibly?
