I cannot abide overly twee girls names, and am hoping to find something that sounds 'masculine' and almost surnamey.

At the moment I like-
Sloane
Tate
Blair
Peyton
Quinn
Whittier

Any other suggestions? Ideally they'd go with classical, albeit more feminine name like Charlotte, Alice, Jane...

Hi,sorry to be the head of reasons but.... why not go with a traditional name and just give your daughter a 'family' nickname, that way when she's a teenager she won't hate you as much, or when applying for jobs etc, she can use which ever name she wants. My friends a HR manager and she always tells me about unfortunates individuals whose parents picked 'trendy' names. Remember she's the one who has to carry the name around with her for ever, you don't. A name may seem lovely now, but what of the future. One or two of my friends have names that were 'trendy' at the time but now are a real burden now. My friend 'Sonya' always taunts her mother with 'what were you thinking?' whenever the subject of baby names comes up

Hee hee

CrumpettyTree · 22/05/2012 11:09

Maybe she has decided to go with Fifi Trixibella after all. :o

MerryMarigold · 22/05/2012 09:35

Brynn is definitely a boy's name. Now where has OP gone? What are your thoughts on our suggestions, mixedberryshake?

CrumpettyTree · 22/05/2012 09:34

Kennedy? Mackenzie?

DueinSeptember · 21/05/2012 22:36

Brooke or Brynn

seeker "Shirley and Joscelyn were originally boy's names- would you use them for a boy?"

Personally I wouldn't, no - although I have met a man called Shirley! It did not seem to bother him.

winkle2 · 21/05/2012 14:46

Terri
Kennedy
Madison

Positiveplus · 21/05/2012 12:31

Sorry if there are any repeats but how about:

Robyn
Rowan
Regan
Taylor
Morgan
Bronwyn
Drew
Alex
Jamie
Joss
Jude
Daryl
Wren
Fran
Greta
Carla

Personally like Robyn, Carla and Bronwyn.

seeker · 21/05/2012 12:30

Well, Shirley and Joscelyn were originally boy's names- would you use them for a boy?

PercyFilth · 21/05/2012 12:28

Christian was originally a girl's name, as was Julian.

If she wants a more feminine name, these names can be easily converted by adding -a, -e, -na, -ne etc.

squoosh · 21/05/2012 12:25

Gibson???? For a girl?

Dearie me.

lollystix · 21/05/2012 10:54

SilkStalkings · 20/05/2012 22:00

Tessa617 · 20/05/2012 21:01

Mallory

tiptoptally · 20/05/2012 20:34

I'm also quite tired of all the milly-molly-mandy-various-versions-of-eva type names that are about at the moment. Whilst still v feminine, I think these names are less 'twee' -

Caroline
Eleanor
Mairead
Rosa
Jennifer

I've always liked Sammy Jo!!

shinyblackgrape · 19/05/2012 22:25

I've just laughed out loud at Bernard!

CrumpettyTree · 19/05/2012 22:23

Parker seems a very odd name for a girl. IMO

CrumpettyTree · 19/05/2012 22:22

Bernard

MerryMarigold · 19/05/2012 22:16

I do know a girl called Bobby-Jo. 2 boys' names but somehow quite girly!
